Crane Cams

I just called Crane Cams today because I wanted to see which of their cams would work best in an A6 with mild compression (10.5:1) and they pretty much said that they are not making the 251 series cams. Anyone else experience this or was the person I talked to an idiot?

If Crane Cams don't make their D16A6 cams anymore, who would make a good cam for this motor with a strong mid to high end for road racing?

Catcams, but they're pricy. No regrinds though.

Exo SR909 ?
Summit racing still has some Crane 251-0016's left, but it's the stg 3. It requires at least 10.5:1 and head porting along with better fuel managment than stock. It's a shame Crane stopped making cams for the A6. They are great cams.

Bisimoto, level 2 regrind for $220, springs are $150
just on topic... I may have a good deal on new Crower stage 2 cam

good. not?

I'm thinking about upgrade valvetrain elements... option are wide... anything good (turbo d16 zc sohc vtec)

Thanx
MHHH I need more info about camshaft

any usefull old thread?

EDIT: nevermind, I found a USER GUIDE thread!
I ran a Crane 14 in my old setup (see sig), new setup will be a Bisimoto Stage 2. The Crane cam may be going up for sale in a few weeks.

I emailed Bisi and his response was:

Greetings Danny,
If you were carburated, or with an EMS, I would recommend my level 3. If you are still manifold injection, with a rigid ecu, then the Level 2 is your best bet. Let me know your thoughts, and thanks for your interest in our technology.
Sincerely,
'Bisi Ezerioha

I emailed him back basically asking if the level 3 was out of my range even running larger injectors and a reprogrammed ECU. This is really a gray area for me since I've never changed cams on a motor before and want to learn a little about the changes and requirements when you change a cam. is the EMS/carburation required for additional fueling, or to allow that damned thing to actually idle? Will someone learn me?
Bisi is saying that you need a race ported head/intake and a reprogramable ecu to run the stage 3. He didn't mention it but stage 3 usually wants high compression. IIRC stage 3 introduces lobe overlap which bleeds off compression at low RPMs but will flow better at high RPMs. Your power band would be 6000 to 8500 RPM and have a lopey idle.

I also autox and am trying to decide on a cam for my d16b6/y8... As much as I want to go stage 3 to get all the power out of my little d16, I just don't know if that power band is good for autox or pretty much drag only.

If that is the case then Level 3 is out of the question. I'll only be allowed to match port 1" into the intake and exhaust runners. Valve size needs to remain OEM. Cam is unrestricted so i can run anything, but if it won't work then its not worth it. You can use any header (currently have a DC 4-1 from a 92-95 Si) and IM and TB is open except for ITBs.

My AEM CAI is going to have to be replaced...it has a 55mm ID which matches the OEM TB perfectly but is smaller than the 58mm integra unit I have now and i may jump up to a 60mm GSR unit if I can find one. As for the exhaust...I've been contemplating making it bigger lately...I figure with the cam and newfound power that Bisi's header which has a 2.5" outlet with a 2.5" exhaust would make a nice improvement over my dc 4-1 and 2" exhaust.

What class you're running in? Under SCCA rules any class that allows cam changes, pretty much allows unlimited head mods also... iirc, only SP has the 1" port-match restriction and no cam changes allowed... SM has unlimited engine/drivetrain mods...

Honda Challenge HC2. Not auto-x...road racing!!!! The car will be prepped for HC2 and likely run in EP uncompetitively whenever I auto-x.

Oops sry... I guess i just assumed it was an autox car by your avatar and sig... Yeah EP would be your class then...
Level 3 cam needs carbs/ITB's to work.....
