anybody heard anything about this setup? i like it becuz its got that stock look to it, and i want to go with a sleeper look. but at the same time, power is more important, so if im much better off goin with a standart cai, i will.

so what is it exactly...a short ram intake...then the box and a cold air tube going down to the bumper?
Well man, I have to be honest, I've seen this intake and it seems to me it doesn't do sh*t. It looks like a stock intake setup without the resonator and really shouldn't or couldn't provide any real power gains compared to a stock air box.

I think that it would work better over a short intake. The box has a runner that drops down onto the wheel well area like a CAI does. But the top runner to the TB is seperate from the box. There is an advantage to this, its very hard to take in water (if you get that deep into water you should not be driving in it). It is easy to clean the filter. NOt a ton of advantages, but its a sleeper is you dont know what to be looking for under the hood.

I think that Mugen has something close to the comptech and way more expensive.

Id love to get either.

i dont see how it's sleeper when the intake elbow (from box to tb) is chrome?.....looks just like any other intake to me, cept it's got the black plastic box instead of open element air filter......just wondering.....

some old road race ITR had an NSX airbox on a stock intake tube. they say it worked great, but i was always told the factory ITR gains very little power from the AEM CAI. hinting that an ITR airbox makes good power and is obviously a good sleeper under the hood. they aren't as hard to find as you think. comptech's air box has its advantages, but theres unnecessary pipe bends on the ones i've seen. that means less HP gains.

the one i saw looked to be either black plastic...or painted black...either way, if i get one i will will be painting over the comptech stickers, and if the elbow is chrome, that too...also, would the stock itr airbox fit? i havent put in my y8 manifold w/ b16 t.b. yet...so wouldnt the piping be too large?

I think it's almost safe to say people buy this intake for Comptech's name, because it really can't do anything a stock air box doesn't already...

i guess nobody has dyno charts eh... :|

Haha...I think that's the point, it has nothing to boast about.

Iono... this seems like a marketing trick for Comptech to make money, I can't help but think that.

possibly...but when i think about it...it has all the same features as any other cai...except the filter is enclosed (5-0 'round here dont like open filters)...and its near impossible to get water in it...unless theres some crazy bends in the piping that restrict air flow...id rather get it than a chrome aem one

that being said...im gonna look into finding a stock itr airbox fer shits and giggles

thanks for the input

If I only had my stock air box...I wish I never got rid of that.

I have run across some on eBay for $15-$30 plus shipping. So its not all that bad I guess.

but I wonder how much of an effect the IM on the gsr had. correct me if I'm wrong but it is a dual stage runner right?
Does it matter? I guess what I should point out is that the base line is with the stock air box vs. the comptech. I do not see where they changed the IM.

it has shown great popularity to the people here in portland, I haven't seen any water damage done with it and it does help as much as a short ram. i would say its not as good as an AEM c.a.i. but it does have the sleeper type look to it. just my opinion.
