Car : Del sol
engine: d16y8 head mini me d16y7 block
ECU: P28 ( no rev limiter - possibly tuned ecu)

Here's the problem , when we jump the little wire by the ecu , the CEL it throws is a single flashing light , flash____flash____flash____flash. Not quick , just 3 or 4 sec intervals. We took this as a code 11. Come to find out , there is no code 11 , only on tuned P28 ecu's does this exist. Now... heres where it gets amusing, The car " runs fine " when you dont have the ECT ( Engine coolant Temp) sensor << located on the dizzy side of the head towards the front by the coolant line to the top radiator hose, two wires, red/white & green/white>> but as soon as you plug the ECT sensor in , *start the car* , press on gas ( It will idle ok , with a little bit of a shutter ) but then < @ 1,500 rpm > *pressing on gas* Rev_Rev_Rev_Rev_Rev (like its hunting, the ECU is limiting the rev limit because its reading an error code of , possible overheat?) :rofc: Turn car off. Unplug ECT sensor * Restart - , Revs fine.

Why im diagnosing this period is because, on cold start , the car wants to stall like its out of time, but its not, and the gas millage dropped significantly , car reeks of gas ( which can lean towards the 02 sensor being bad also )

this is where we sit at .....any ideas?

engine coolant temp sensor - fails your car will run slightly richer and you will not have vtec, why? because the ECT sensor is used in determining fuel trims thus the reason you would be running slightly richer. its a safety protocol built in to the ecu in the case of an ECT failure. and obviously vtec will not work since you must have a certain operating temp established in order for the system to be live. oh and a constant cold rev limit in some cases

i wouldnt be surprised if it was the 02 sensor that went bad as much oil at one point that was being blown into the exhaust pipe , but this doesnt explain why when the ECT sensor is plugged in the car hunts when u press the gas

Double check it's not a code 41. Sometimes that last one is a really quick flash. 41 would be a O2 sensor issue.

Also make sure that temp sensor is working if you havent already
