Hey! Just recently got a 89' Civic DX. Got a cluster of the same year with a Tach. Installed new cluster and what do you know tach doesn't work. I know that the wiring to the cluster is pin B11 and is blue, I also know that the blue wire running off the Distributor is the wire that runs to the cluster. Clearly there is a short somewhere but after a ton of searching and reviewing the wiring diagrams I can't seem to find where the wire goes from the distributor. The wiring diagram just has a line that goes trait from the distributor to the cluster. There is no way it just appears through the firewall without going through another plug. Any clues would be helpful in tracing this. I'm not trying to just run another wire and solder things, I'd rather find the break and repair it properly.

I have checked for continuity between both plugs on each shock tower and the distributor plug-blue wire with no results

No continuity between pin B11 on dash plug and blue on harness side blue wire. And no continuity between any plug that goes to the firewall and the blue wire that goes to the distributor. Which connector does the blue wire go to in the engine bay?

I know you're trying to do it "right" but when I added a tach to my car I simply ran the wire and wrapped it into other wire looms in the vicinity so it was as unobtrusive as possible.

I hate chasing electric gremlins...

Well, I was trying not to do a ton of work just to have a tach on an identical 89' cluster; but I guess I'll be taking the dash out and de-pinning B11 and running a new wire through the firewall and weave it through the loom to the distributor

That's really not necessary.

Off the top of my head it'll go from the cluster, to the dash harness plug at the fusebox then to the engine harness connector then to the distributor.

I've got diagrams at home that'll trace it, but i keep forgetting to take a pic.

Either way, there's no need to pull your dash.
