Alright, I have taken my 96 coupe off the road so I can have time to fully build the motor and do some body work and repaint. I now drive a 94 ex as my daily beater.. I was looking into building a close ratio transmission for the 96 and I found an excellent combination between the ex, dx, and cx gearsets, of which I own at least one of all three...

I want to take the 96 ex tranny apart and remove the gearset, install the dx final drive of 4.058 and replace 2nd gear with a cx 2nd, then 4th gear with the cx's 3rd, and 5th gear with the ex's own 4th.

This would make my tranny have as follows...

1st Gear – EX Tranny's 1st gear – 3.25 - 44.25 mph @ 8500rpm
2nd Gear – CX Tranny's 2nd gear – 1.761 - 81.67 mph @ 8500rpm
3rd Gear – EX Tranny's 3rd gear – 1.25 - 115.05 mph @ 8500rpm
4th gear – CX Tranny's 3rd gear - 1.066 - 134.91 mph @ 8500rpm
5th gear – EX Tranny's 4th gear - .909 - 158.22 mph @ 8500rpm

DX 4.058 Final Drive

I want to know if this is even possible. Has anybody tried this combination before? Basically, I want to know if I can use the CX 3rd in place of 4th, and can I use the ex 4th as 5th?

Thanks,

from what i know...

1st and 2nd: don't touch'em
3rd: you could take zc 3rd (1.346) or keep ex 3rd of (1.25)
4th: cx/vx 3rd as 4th (1.066) or zc 4th (1.033)
5th: zc 5th (.878 ) or L3 5th (.771)

final drive
integra zxi (4.437)
ex (4.25)

can't use the 4th for 5th, but I have .878 ZC 5th's if you want.

The motor will be buzzy on the highway, but depends on how fast you drive...

current gearbox
DX 1-2
ZC 3-4-5
88 DX 3.722 FD in a S20 case.

You'll never be racing in 5th, so I suggest a .771 for reasonable highway rpms.

I want to keep the rpm drop from 4th to 5th as minimal as possible. How much would you sell the zc's .878 for?

I will be running 18psi daily, and 30psi track, I don't speed on the street very often but I am building this car for the purpose of acceleration, and I need my tranny to support that...

I'm assuming that since this is D-Series.org you're running a D-Series correct?

Well, based on that assumption I would like to ask one simple question: Why are you reving all the way up to 8500!???

because I am running a large turbo, and will be running a larger one when my bottom end is finished. I may need to rev to 9 actually...

my n/a dohc zc race motor revs to 8500 quite happily , would probably do 9000 if it needed to , as long as the engine can breath enough at those rpm then theres power to be made
