so as the title says ,the alternator light is on when the key is off...
I hade crome open at the time ,the batt voltage was charging kinda high 17+ volts ,I turned off the car and the battery light stayed ON .?

Sounds like you have a bridged connection in the alternator. While the car is running check if you have any AC voltage at the battery.

17 volts is not good and will eventually boil all the water out of the battery. Sounds like the voltage regulator inside the alternator is burnt up.

it's a 92 dx hatch,
Did some checking ,now the alt is not even charging,fuses are good .so

I'll take the alternator off the car ,I am just going to put on my spare and throw this one under the bench for a rainy day .
