I am going to take the plunge and swap my stock D15A3 head for a ported and polished head. Do I need to order new head bolts or can I reuse the old ones.

Many thanks for the 411,

Scott

I've reused my head bolts and they are fine. Just clean the chase the threads in the block side and add a little oil to the bolt itself.

If you are gonna want it to last and not blow head gaskets and warp you will defenently want to get a set of ARPs. Dont skimp on a part that only costs a fraction of the engine, cause when it blows up you will kick yourself in the ass for it. Kinda like gasket... Dont buy cheap ones.

Ah. My mini-me engine on 8 pounds hasn't lifted a head, blown a headgasket or "Strethed" any stock head bolts.. (even reused ones)

But do as you like.

ARP head bolts cost slightly more than a new set of OEM. Their on my car and have had no problems now for four years. Piece of mind is worth it to me.
It seems odd (to me) that someone who bore the expense of a JRSC would reuse head bolts...

Why not change them if you can, that is my thinking.

This reminds me of my brother changing the oil in his
mustang and not changing the filter. In the end the
engine let go due to overheating and him dumping
water on the block and cracking the 357.
What a shame, for him.

Why not change them if you can, Because you CAN reuse them and save $.

As far as your bro's car dying due to overheating, that arguement is stated very badly. So many other factors could have lead to his engine's death.

hi dester223:

You are correct you can save money by not changing them.

There are many was to save money, like not changing your underwear to save on laundry detergent, better yet, no underwear at all, heck who needs clothes anyway.... just kidden-around.

 "ciao"
