can you check resistance between the thermostat housing little nipple bolt and the negative post of your battery?

I'm reading 3.2 ohms on mine and it seems high, but I'd like to get a few other datapoints

I would expect it to be lower than that, seeing as it's supposed to be grounded. If you're unsure of your ground, just put a new cable on it.

I would think (don't know for sure) that it should be less than 1 ohm.

my thoughts exactly, which is why I need someone else to ohm theirs out for me as a sanity check ;)
