The camshaft from a D16 vtec head will work on a D17a2 head without and problem.? Or do I need to change the cam pulley?

The y8 valve train can be swapped onto the a2 head(with some work), along with the cam, to make the d17a2 a true vtec rather than an eco vtec, but you will need to find some way to tune it, probably a stand alone like the aem or something. Some others here are playing with speeduino as the tunning solution for the 7th gen i think.

It is NOT a straight swap.

you need to machine a new center hub for a d16 adjustable camgear in order to maintain the cam sensor ring on teh d17.

Or do what Pirate Garage did on youtube, they got an old AEM D17 cam gear (they dont make them anymore) and swapped the hub with a AEM d16y8 cam gear.

d16 uses a cam gear SLOT, the d17 uses a PIN to locate the cam gear.

What happened to looking up pictures of parts you have questions on?

Pictures of both camgears would indicate the differences quite well.
