Hey guys my si civic was idleing this morning wile i was leting it warm up nd then it died. i poped the hood and saw straight away that the cambelt had gone. i had brought the engine off a mate that 25000k "suposedly had 25000 on the cambelt but c now that it not the case. Whats the mostlikely fix?? New head etc?? are there any posts on this previously??
Cheers for any help

Take the head off and check to see if any valves came in contact with the pistons. If it was just idling you might have gotten lucky. In that case replace the head gasket and timing belt. If things came in contact with eachother then go from there...Good luck
if it was just idling, i seriously doubt you bent any valves - put a new belt on it and see what it does before you pull the head - you probably will need to remove all the camshaft caps so that you can get the timing marks lined up - don't try to turn the engine over without making sure the valves are on the seat
i lost a timing belt on the freeway, and had to get a new head...I am pretty sure you will be ok if you were just idling>
mine skipped on the highway doing 70 up a mountian, and i drove it for another 10 min. before stopping,
damn tack was jumpin all over the place lol.
i didnt mess shit up
bud of mine bought an '89 SI with a broken timing belt. reset the cam timing to match TDC, threw a new belt on it, and it ran perfect
I went home and took off the cams etc and all valves look to b ok but i am unsure so i was thinkin it would be a good idea to take the head off just to check. its only gona cost me a gasket set and atleast il no its ok. Any thoughts??

you cant tell what the valves look like until you remove the head.
seriously i would just buy a belt and slap it on, if it works, great , if not then take off the head. usually its when your going like 70mph when your belt snaps and breaks shit.
best of luck to you. whenever i buy a car i always change the timing belt, even if they say it doesnt need it. it gets expensive when you ruin valves.

Yea I was going to do it but then i was told that it was done. but i wasnt using the cover on top ov the cam gears:oops: nd it duz look as if something has gone in and cased it to brake . Bad luck i guess
Put a new belt on. It should be fine.
mine popped as i pulled up to a red light. threw a belt on and it was good to go, till the shop used the wrong tensioner.
Hey guys just got the zc sorted last night and it was goin ok but my alarms goin hypo nw. any way the cambelt had broken as one ov the small steel locaters(in the holes thet the bolt go through) on the top cmbelt cover came loose and fell into the cambelt area and tore it up. not a likely thing to hapen bu atleast its ok now. all it needed was a new belt
mmmmmmmm i hope u dont need a head.....i think u will be ok tho if u were just idleing.........my sis had a 2002 bug and was going 80mph and the timing belt snaped and the valves were bent sooooooo bad
I broke a timing belt ay idle and bent the #3 exhust valve's
I bent most of my valves just trying to start the car(cousin installed belt a tooth off, and forgot to tighten the cam gear).

Pull the head off, take the cams out, hold the head with the chamber up and if you see light in the port, its bent.
