The motor is for sale but I’m keeping the trans. It’s a Z6 unit with a pretty noticeable 3rd gear grind. I’m actually debating whether I should send it out for a rebuild now versus waiting until next winter, so I don’t have to put it in/take it right back out. I’m kinda out of money for the next two months though so that might make the decision easy for me

Yeah I’ve been thinking it might not be a bad idea to start buying up some spares, especially block/crank and transmissions. Before the supply dries up and the prices get too out of control.

https://flic.kr/p/2ndjNVX Post mount installed. I finally got a bushing for the degree wheel and I ordered a piston stop from Summit so I’m ready to get going on that as soon as I can figure out how to torque the crank bolt down tight enough to not back out when I’m spinning the rotating assembly counter clockwise. No flywheel installed yet, but the hoist is freed up so I can get the new motor off the stand and have more room to work. I’m meeting somebody in the morning to sell the motor so that’s one less thing taking up garage space.

https://flic.kr/p/2ndkX56 I found this crack in my Innovative mount so that kinda killed my motivation for the night. I’m going to look for some Hasport billet mounts and hope they don’t take all summer to be delivered.

https://flic.kr/p/2ndkX5m I went ahead and got my new Hybrid Racing shifter installed. I can’t run the EK9 shift boot anymore so I’ll have to find a plate soon. I also replaced my old ES poly shifter bushings with a fresh new set. I went with black this time instead of red since I’m all grown up now. I was mulling over doing the no slop linkage mod but my u joint feels nice and tight so I’m not too worried about it right now.

This sucks! Were these purchased new, only ever seen a stock or mildly turbo'd d series?

If so, I might contact innovative and say WTF lol, maybe you'd get a new one at a slight discount.

So I have an idea for you, it would be very hard to explain in text, so I took some pics and made a GIF lol.

You remember arcade joysticks? They had this flat little piece of plastic as a dust shield that would move around with the stick shaft, in between the joystick component body and the top plate palm rest?

Output device Peripheral Audio equipment Home appliance Gadget

What if you made something similar out of 3 sheets of plastic, and some washers for spacers? Pretend the pennies are washers, and the TV dinner cardboard are your plastics lol. You'd install some small fasteners through the sheets where the washers/pennies are to clamp all this together lol:

Cabinetry Wood Yellow Drawer Kitchen appliance

Food Tableware Gesture Ingredient Table

Table Wood Yellow Rectangle Gas

Food Cuisine Recipe Ingredient Dish

Then you could do this:

Hand Iguania Reptile Wood Lizard

If I had a center console on grey car, I'd definitely try this haha.

You'd have to measure your range of motions to figure out if you could do it so there wouldnt be any exposed gaps between the plastics, but i think it might work in the space you have!

Just a thought! I had to get this out of my brain and down on something tangible haha

Lol yeah it appears so. It’s only going to get worse.

I bought these in like 2009 or 2010, so I’m guessing they are out of warranty. I don’t see any reason to replace these with the same brand/style. I think it’s just time to step up to the Hasport billet mounts. At this point with all the money I’ve spent, what’s another $400?

I like that shifter idea! I was thinking of the Circuit Hero V2 plate in black and installing a new OEM dust seal, but I dig the arcade style originality.

https://flic.kr/p/2neMAcs Swap Shop came through the mounts. Hasport billet with 88A bushings.

https://flic.kr/p/2neMAch Mocked up the valve cover and coils. Charlie Moua did the powder coat and coil plate. He shipped it with some really nice stainless flange bolts but I swapped them for stainless socket heads with Downstar washers.

Nothing else done tonight but I did clean and organize the garage. Found a few missing sockets in the mess.

Met Soul Engineering and drtalon123 at HDAY on Sunday and we watched an hour or so of track clean up. My son wasn’t feeling it so we took off early.
Still waiting on parts.

I'm super jelly, I had to switch back to my previously polished vc to rectify an oil leak. Your sweet color makes me miss my cast iron vc. Can't wait to see the dyno and ripper vids when this thing hits pavement😍

https://flic.kr/p/2ngepzD I wound up not having enough space to squeeze the line separator in so I took slo’s advice and just drilled holes for cable ties. I’ll tighten the ties down once I get the pump hanger in and slack taken up.

https://flic.kr/p/2ngezKf I did the same thing for the next bracket up.

https://flic.kr/p/2ng95oD I torqued the flywheel down and got the motor off the hoist and back onto the stand. I was able to get the crank bolt torqued down pretty well but didn’t try spinning the crank counter clockwise yet. I figure I’ll use my torque wrench to get the crank bolt to 60-70 pounds, enough to overcome the valve spring pressure, and then I’ll get to cracking on finding TDC and cam center line.

I messaged Cole from Bad Guys on Wednesday and he said he’d have my manifold shipped out this week. No tracking info so far and I’ve been finding more and more posts on Facebook about him taking forever to deliver so I’m working on a contingency plan. If I can find another Skunk2 manifold I’ll see if 4 Piston or HeadGames can get it done for me. If I can find an Edelbrock manifold I’ll just run it as is.

Not much else done, my weekends are just getting busier and busier.

https://flic.kr/p/2ngDYJh Pump is ready to drop in. I ordered an Earl’s screw on style fitting to replace the tool less quick disconnect style that the JB Tuned kit came with. Placed the order back on March 30th and haven’t heard a peep from the vendor since they took my money. I’m getting pretty fucking tired of paying for in stock shit that isn’t actually in stock and ready to ship.
Anyway, should be able to drop this in over the weekend. I got some AN caps to keep my garage from smelling like gas for the next few weeks.

Friday night I got the pump hanger in. Not sure I’m 100% happy with how it’s all laid out. I might make some changes.

https://flic.kr/p/2nhx7pu Used my piston stop to find TDC.

https://flic.kr/p/2nhx7pE Set up my dial indicator using the post mount. In the end I wound up using the exhaust side to find centerline. Then I spent all day yesterday second guessing everything I did. So I went back out today and did it all again. Advanced the cam gear until I got centerline of 110.5°
The cam card calls for 111° so I’m just going to call this good since I think it would take me a dozen tries to get the gear settings exact.

Intake manifold didn’t show up, surprise surprise.

Working on setting valve last right now.

I wanted to mount my flex fuel sensor while I have bay space to work. I grabbed some 1/16” 6061 sheet and scribed a line.
https://flic.kr/p/2nkEnyE I screwed a piece of angle stock to my work bench to make a ghetto brake.
https://flic.kr/p/2nkEnzm It was a bitch to bend. I tried to heat it up but all I have is propane and I couldn’t really get it hot enough. I didn’t get a tight radius at all.
https://flic.kr/p/2nkEnzg But I got it bent, cut out, and mounted to rivnuts in the subframe.
https://flic.kr/p/2nkD5dt I used a 45° for the return to the tank. I need to go through my box of fittings and figure out the regulator to the sensor. I got the brake soft lines done as well.
https://flic.kr/p/2nkwy3i Feed and return all dressed and secured. I wound up not using the separators. Plenty of slack back at the pump hanger. I decided to ditch the modified OEM hanger and I ordered a Radium hanger. It’ll let me run the access cover so that’s a plus. It’s backordered, of course.

I got tired of waiting on Bad Guys so I bought an Edelbrock intake manifold off eBay. Its missing a fuel rail stud so we’ll see how rough it is when it gets here. It’s the Z6 version so I won’t have to mess with the air injection plugs. I plan to gasket match the throttle body and flange and figure out my NPT to quick disconnect air line fittings before I slap it on. I’m going to clean up the inside of the clutch housing, install the clutch, and mate the motor and trans and then it should be pretty much ready to drop in, though I’d like to get the ATI damper on beforehand.
