https://flic.kr/p/2kzBhi5Getting shinier! I ordered more felts in different sizes but they won’t be back in stock until the 15th.
I also just ordered a bunch of stuff from Honda. Water pipe o rings, water neck, timing belt pulley and guide plates, and a few bolts and gaskets.
I also ordered more stuff from Downstar. Oil pan kit, titanium header and intake manifold studs, and some other odds and ends.
Hoping to get the head sent out this week.
https://flic.kr/p/2kAUC26I started packaging my cylinder head. The plan is to pack it in a box with expanding foam and then pack that box into a slightly bigger box with more padding. I just need to figure out which carrier to use.
https://flic.kr/p/2kCq8w4Cylinder head is all boxed. I’m going to put this box into a slightly bigger box and pad the fuck out of it. I just haven’t found a slightly bigger box yet.
https://flic.kr/p/2kCqBFmI started sanding my 99-00 headlights. 400 grit to get the big scratches out. Will go another round of 400 in the opposite direction and work up to 800 or 1000 and then hit it with 2k clear coat. Need to wait for warmer weather before I can spray.
https://flic.kr/p/2kCqBFrI’m done polishing my VTEC solenoid. Still waiting on the bolts from Downstar. This could be SO much shinier and smoother but I don’t have the means and/or the patience to get into the many nooks and crannies.
Heading to the junkyard tomorrow. They have a VSM 99 sedan and a 95 EX coupe. Hoping to grab some body parts and some Z6 bits, if everything isn’t already picked over. The high is supposed to be 30° tomorrow so that should be fun.
Need to order more sandpaper from Amazon and still need to find a box to get this damn head sent out.
https://flic.kr/p/2kF275fSome bolts came in from Downstar. Oil pan, VTEC solenoid, thermostat housing, water neck, and titanium studs for the IM. Burnt titanium studs for the exhaust manifold are backordered.
https://flic.kr/p/2kF1xUYI started sanding the thermostat housing to get ready for polishing. Twice as big as the VTEC solenoid with just as many nooks and crannies. I’ll be ordering more sandpaper tomorrow.
I ordered some parts from SpeedFactory as well but FedEx shows them stuck in Chicago since Monday. With the issues I had with my PCI order I’m not getting my hopes up.
Head shipped out today via UPS. $111 with $500 insurance and it should be there by Thursday. I emailed Performance Porting to let them know it’s on the way.
Pistons shipped from SpeedFactory. They should be here by Thursday.
My goal is to have the motor assembled/broken in before next winter and then work on piecing together the turbo kit and getting the trans rebuilt. I’d like to find a spare trans to bolt up so I can avoid too much downtime and also because having spares is a good idea.
https://flic.kr/p/2kRRP93Pistons arrived today. Dustin emailed and let me know the head made it to Colorado safe and sound. I’m going to pay 50% of the estimate tomorrow and then he can get started. Still waiting on my Federal tax return and my third stimulus payment but that should help the build fund once it arrives.
https://flic.kr/p/2kT4xgoOil pan ordered. I went with the 15-958. A6 pickup tubes are long since discontinued but RockAuto sells one made by Melling that should fit the Bill. Rods will probably be next and I’m looking at the Manley H Beams. I’m not going to buy any bearings just yet since I don’t have any measurements at the moment. I’ll likely have CNC Werx assemble the bottom end after CSS install and hone, so they can figure out what I need. The head still needs a cam and I need to track down a dizzy but it’s finally staring to come together.
Checking stuff off my list just makes me realize how much more shit I need to buy. Trans needs to be overhauled and I still need fuel delivery, clutch, turbo kit, and tuning. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.
https://flic.kr/p/2kTykEqOil pan showed up today. That was fast!!
Hit the junkyard this morning and scooped up another headlight since the previous assembly I found has some hazing on the inside that I’d rather not deal with. I also snagged a fuel pump hanger so I can work on adding a bigger pump and AN bulkheads. I’m contemplating going E85 since there is a station pretty close to me and since gas prices are rising. I’ll post pics of the head as soon as I get it back.
I needed to order new main bolts for the block and discovered that 90008-PM6-003 is discontinued through Honda. I found them through Acura though and they were listed as in stock so I ordered two last night. My order status was updated to In Progress this morning so I’m crossing my fingers that they actually have these bolts and fulfill the order.
Crunching some numbers and so far I’m in for $2,646.89 for this engine rebuild, not including tax/shipping. Mind you this is like 95% brand new OEM bolts/washers/dowels/etc so it can definitely be done for cheaper. I guess this is no longer a pretty budget build
