I picked up new washers for the toe arm bolts (I was missing one but decided to just replace both). Hopefully I can hit the street again tomorrow while the sun is out. I still haven’t bought a new laptop so getting my idle right will be a bit of a pain in the ass. I plan to rough in my wideband tomorrow and work on some other issues.
I want to give a shoutout to Pegasus Auto Racing. They have been hands down the fastest/most reliable at shipping me new stuff. I placed an order today for lug nuts and brake fluid, and I also scooped up some 3” tubing to do a cold air intake on my RDX.
https://flic.kr/p/2k7pqodNew laptop getting some work in. Lenovo 15” IdeaPad that I got from BestBuy for $300. I started over again with a stock P28 file and I’ve got her idling well. I’ll take her out on the street tomorrow and do what I can w/o a wideband.
https://flic.kr/p/2k7oQ95New steel lug nuts out back. I ordered a set of Muteki SR48 and I’ll put eight of those up front once they get here.
New toe arm washers are in on both sides. I also ordered another pint of RBF600 to finish bleeding the brakes. They felt a little soft the last time out. It could also be I’m not used to the bigger MC but it won’t hurt to get every last bubble of air out.
I’ll try to drop the rear shocks down this week and get some more drive time to shake her down.
https://flic.kr/p/2k836GwTorqued down the left rear axle nut, staked it, and slapped on a new hub cap. I also dropped the shock body down to the next mounting hole and took the Slipstream off and mounted the Attack. The tires on the Slip are at the wear bar and dated the 24th week of 2006, so no need to trust them any more. Working on the right side now but it’s 30° outside and I’ve got raccoons creeping around my open garage door, so we’ll see how much I get done.
Went for another drive last night. Temps looked good, idle is decent (never stalled out), and I’ve got no leaks. Wife was with me and said it sounds loud out back. I agreed but couldn’t remember what it sounded like the last time I drove it. It’s completely gutted so you hear EVERYTHING.
Definitely needs an alignment to be enjoyable and chances are that and new tires will get rid of most of the noises.
https://flic.kr/p/2k8GgesI cranked the front up a bit. The Progress manual says one turn of the perch is about 1/16”. I started with the right side but getting even two turns in was a bitch, so I said fuck it two turns it is, and put the wheel back on. When I dropped it down off the jack it looked like I went up a 1/4” so that’s cool. Did the left side and added an extra turn for that broke dick corner balancing.
Tomorrow is supposed to be really nice so I’ll take her out for a morning drive and then again after sunset to finally aim the headlights.
Will likely bleed the brakes again this weekend and hopefully get in for an alignment Monday morning.
I drove the car on Saturday and Sunday since the weather was great. I took the wife along and put about 50 miles on it between the two days. I still haven’t hit VTEC yet but so far everything seems nice and solid and there’s no smoke or leaks. The car tracks almost dead straight and I didn’t experience any rubbing or bottoming out of the suspension, plus no scraping anything on the road.
New tires were ordered. I went with the Azenis RT615K+ and they should be here Tuesday, so hopefully Wednesday after work I can get the worn Direzzas off and get the new rubber mounted and balanced.
I also ordered a Sergeant Race Division dead pedal, just because it’s bling. New lugs were ordered from Matt @ ICB but no word on shipping yet so I’m going to email him today and see what the deal is.
I sent in the rebate form for my Innovate WBO2 so I should be getting a check for $25 in 6-9 weeks.
Next project is getting the WBO2 installed along with the quick release and Momo wheel.
I also ordered an adapter cable so I can convert the older full speed cable on my Alpine head unit into a 3.5mm jack so I can use my iPhone as a source unit again.
I’d like to get the trans off to Aquafina for a complete rebuild and LSD install and then get to work on the spare Z6 I have.
So for now I’ll just be saving some cash and then knocking stuff out one at a time. Hopefully the tax return will help out.
https://flic.kr/p/2kccy7eStock steering wheel and clock spring removed. Depinned the OEM harness so just the horn wire comes through and then installed an OEM Honda horn shoe.
https://flic.kr/p/2kcgo2zNRG short hub installed and Momo wheel bolted down so I can test fit the horn button. This hub brings the wheel so close that there’s no way you could run this without removing the control stalks.
During the last test drive the wife was cold so I went to put the floor heat on and realized that I never locked down the mixer cable, so I took care of that tonight.
Took her out on Sunday and the noise from the rear end is gone so the new tires were the fix. Dead pedal will be delivered today but ICB couldn’t get the lugs so I’ll have to find some somewhere else.
Had a surging idle when I drove it last but I wasn’t logging and it was like 34° so I’ll have to check that out next time I hit the road. I started installing the WBO2 and didn’t get very far. Garage is really cold and that kills my motivation
The current state of my Civic is a drying rack for my hockey gear. My wife started teaching preschool in our basement so I have nowhere else to keep my stinky equipment.
I did take her out today and I did hit VTEC. Just enjoying driving her for now. Still working on getting the WBO2 hooked up and feeding data to the S300. I was on the fence as to where to install the gauge but I’m thinking now that I can squeeze it into the drivers side dash vent. No more hunting idle today but air temp was 60° so I’m sure that didn’t hurt.
My hockey league is shutting down on Tuesday and I am in need of a hip replacement so now seems like as good a time as any.
https://flic.kr/p/2kn2q4jWent yard picking on Saturday and FINALLY found a 96-98 passenger side fender worth pulling. It’s got some scrapes and a small dent, but I’m 99% sure I can hammer the dent out. The ultimate plan is for a 3 piece front end but this at least replaces the terribly fitting Password JDM fender that’s currently there.
https://flic.kr/p/2kn1QroIt’s a tad bit cold tonight. I managed to wash the junk yard fender and install a K&N panel filter in my RDX. Haven’t driven the Civic in two weeks because of snow/rain but I did start it last night and it fired right up. More to come, just slowing down with the weather.
I got my first dose of the Covid vaccine last Tuesday, so at least I’ve got THAT going for me.
