Last week i had to put in a different tranny as i blew the diff out on the original one. Everything was fine till monday. I was driving and noticed the speedo was all over the place, car still drove fine didnt hear any noises. So i swaped the vss from my old trany to the newer one and it helped for a day but got even worse like it would read 0 all the time. So i then swaped the whole vss shaft and not just the sensor and looked at the drive in the trany and it looks good. Now my speedo works better but it still bounces when warm, but not like it used to. Now it jumps back and forth about 10 miles an hour. I have been having to drive with the gps on so i know how fast im going!

on another note the vss shaft from my old tranny had the black gear and the shaft i got with the new tranny is white.

an ideas?

I hope its not the cluster, hard to find one for a sol these days :p

Im thinking the sensor but this one is out of the tranny i had before i blew the diff and had no issues with the speedo before that.

Connections on the sensor is good (the vss that came with the new tranny was worse looking than my original but still worked for a week), no dialectic grease on them. Im gonna retry the grounds as the tranny was out so its possible one got broke or not tight 100 %.

didnt get back here in time to see ur post bone. I greased the connectors and made sure they were clean. It didnt look like a double white insert when i had it apart but it didnt take it out so im not 100 %. But still the same, bouncy speedo.

Same thing happened in my EG, I had no idea what it was and had about 4 CEL's which had nothing to do with it.

Though when I fixed these CEL's the last one being the TCS which I couldn't fix as I was using a JDM Del sol ECU in my B16A EG and the car didn't have TCS, the problem with the cluster was gone..

I had a similar problem with a pos 98 dodge neon. My speedo would sometimes bounce, or not work at all, and when it didn't register, the odometer didn't register either. Believe it or not, the fix was in the cluster mounting. If I pushed on the cluster face when I was driving, the speedo would work again....so fucking lame the way dodge designed it. So, I had to take apart the dash, and stick a shim behind the cluster plug mount, so it would engage the cluster tighter.... Anyways, I have a point here, let me get to it...lol Maybe your prob is in the cluster plug connection?

i dont think its the cluster at all now! Im sorry for those who think it still is. The plugs on the cluster snap in fine and are tight! I pulled the vss out of the tranny last night and tried to open it as i found a fix on how to repair the sensor. Now i could get the screws out but not the plastic top. so i just beat on the damn thing and then put it back on. Still have a bouncing speedo but not as bad it stays near the correct mph but still moves back and forth. When the speedo shows no speed when im moving my odometer does NOT work and i get the cel. so i dont know how this is still a cluster issue, i have a new one in with the exact same issue as the original one.
