When belts start to squeak does it mean that its going?

I took a look at them, and they dont seem so bad, but it seems to only squeak in the morning when I start the car up cold. I've tried spraying belt dressing on them, but only seemed to quiet them down for a few days.

Also, how hard is it to change all the fan/accessory belts?

appreciate any help.

thanx

try tightening them first before you replace them.

i.e: my alternator belt was squeaking something feirce. i unbolted my alternator, tightened it. squeaking went away.

just a thought...

What is the process involved in tightening the alternator belt? Is there a tensioning bolt on the alternator?

thanx guys

you just have to adjust your alternator belt until it's tight.

1. loosen the bolts on your alternator

2. use a crowbar or long screwdriver for leverage to move the alternator

3. check the belt tension

4. if it's tight, torque down the alternator w/ the leverage still applied

that should be all

NOTE: don't get it too tight...you need a lil bit of movement

this was done on my d16y7

if i'm wrong someone quote me, please or if there is a different way to do it
