There seem to be quite a bit of information about the manual transmissions around. But there doesn't seem to be much on the automatics.

I currently own a 1997 Honda Del Sol S with a D16Y7 A/T. I was wondering what other Automatics could mount up to it.

Don't get me wrong, I can drive a manual, I own another car that is a manual (a 2018 WRX), but I am turning my Del Sol into my DD and want it to be a cruiser.

I have some unconfirmed reports that the D16Y7 transmissions has poor gearing and the internals are not very strong, so I was wondering what I could move to that could survive a bit more power, and would be a better driving experience.

Anything is fair game as long as it can bolt up.

I’ll let someone else chime in with details but the gist of it is that they all suck at handling higher than stock HP/TQ figures and swapping is almost certainly more trouble than its worth.

Adding more power is throwing money at a wall. A manual swap will get you more performance and better gas mileage.

Level10 is really the only place that deals with autos when it comes to upgrades.

Auto's are great for daily duties. Had an old Subaru Leone with a twin turbo swap and a stall kit for the auto, it was great fun. Would've been quicker with a manual sure, but no regrets.

I think an upgraded trans cooler would be a good start, and i would guess the torque converter would need upgrading. If you have a chat to an auto trans specialist, i'd be interested to hear what they suggest.
