We're wiring up the alternator in our 91 hatch rally car after building a completely new harness.

Here is what I have as a wiring description.

Big white wire to battery.
bk/yl to 12v switched
hook wh/bl to bk/yellow (12v switched) with light

I know the white wire is output, the bk/yl wire is the field wire, and the wh/bl wire is the charge control that needs some resistance (the light).

I have 2 questions:
First, is this a workable wiring set-up? We have no factory ecu to control the charging.

Second, I know the wh/bl wire needs some resistance for that system to work. We don't need an alternator indicator light and would like to use a resistor instead. What ohm rating should we use to replace the bulb? If I just take a resistance reading with a VOM of some generic indicator light, would that get me close enough?

When I looked at the wiring diagram for the civic/crx, it Tees back into the switched 12v wire . . . I didn't figure it needed any resistance.

I got a d15b1 for free and the alternator off that is currently in my '62 buick special working fine after it's generator crapped the bed.

The fat wire I have connected to the battery, switched 12v was the field wire to the original generator and my load sensing wire is hooked up to the starter solenoid on the side with all the main leads.

cool. tnx. I'll hook it up that way and see if the charging voltage changes with load.
