Hey guys,

Weird question, but I think it deserves its own thread for attention. I am noticing that the lower alternator brackets have a collar that is pressed in to one side of the bracket. Does this collar serve any purpose or aid in grounding the alternator? Is there any negative consequence of the alternator touching the bracket directly? I can't possibly imagine there is, but also, I can't fathom why the collar or spacer is there in the first place instead of the bracket just being the 'proper' width?

Not all alternators measure the same, one less step to perform in manufacturing, thus the need for a slide thingy.

What is the purpose? Just to provide 'swivel'? Couldn't that have been accomplished with a washer?
Because not all alternators are the exact width, it allows for some error
