I asked this in the noob forum but got no answers:

In a remote start system, how long the alarm will try to crank the vehicle? how does it know the engine is already running and stop the starter??

it will try 2 or 3 times before it figures out it's not going to start. I just pulses the starter to turn it over. The remote start is hooked into a rpm feed, that lets it know when it's running and it also keeps someone from getting in and blowing your motor or stealing the car. Once it hits a certain rpm, it kills it to keep someone from just jumping in and over revving or taking off in it.

wow, cool; rep for you, dude. Thanks.

Another question:
I've seen some alarms can put a limit to the revolutions of the engine, those systems turn the car off or really limitate the revolutions??
If they put a limit to the engine's RPM, how they do that?? I don't see any connection between the alarm and any component of the vehicle to cause that feature.

I figure this is the best place to ask this.. which company has the most reliable reputation when it comes to security? My biggest concern is the quality of the product and the transmitter to the pager/remote. I'm not just looking to deter and disable, but I'd also like to know what is going on so I can at least catch a glimpse of the wanabe thieves.

My car has been broken into twice this week, in my drive way. The broken street light doesn't help. On top of that, five reports of stolen vehicles just last night in my immediate area.
