DOHC ZC carries that same oil cooler. Am happy to have that on the old turbo ZC in the wagon.

Got the cam back in, valve cover just resting over everything to keep stuff clean:

Also pulled all the sandwich plates off the block, and removed the oil pressure switch to get ready for the Ktuned adapter.

Proper side skirts should be here tomorrow. Unfortunately @slo_eg8, PCI does actually want the other skirts back :( they provided a return label and everything.

Some borderline porn for ya, curious if the 18+ filters block these lmao.

Installing the PCI submarine belt bracket to the seat bracket:

Who knew Momo was owned by OMP? Didnt even notice this little flag till just now:

Can no longer wear my bulky boots sitting in the car anymore. I'll have to buy some new shoes to drive this thing when its ready, boots are very uncomfortable:

Testing to make sure the cam is at the right height up my waist. Also need to wear briefs or longjohns under my pants, the seat is very snug and comfortable which is good for my body and lower back, but not my nuts, they dont appreciate being squeezed in this tight, nor does the dong like the sub strap, but thats part of racing haha:

Gonna drop the trans and get the crank out in anticipation for the Z6 crank. Should be here tomorrow! More pics this evening.

Might also get the fuel rail reinstalled, and maybe even pull the oil pressure gauge.

Also wanted to take this opportunity to ask a question, maybe even pluck @transzex or @EFB055 's brains for a second:

How do stock D series oil pan baffling fare while out on the track in relatively serious competition environments?

I dont plan on "racing" the car hard yet, since HPDE isnt really racing, but i do one day hope to put it up in some time attack sessions. I will worry about such mods later, but im going to start thinking about it now.

Pondering getting an Accusump, and possibly designing my own sump extention and baffling later on. Canton has some really good images of their Z6 sump pickup baffle i could probably build myself, but im overall curious how others who track their D's on road courses or autoX seem to do.

Thoughts?

Well, didnt get as far as i hoped tonight. Got preoccupied with the fuel rail.

Was starting to tighten the rail nuts down, and barely any pressure they just kept turning and turning.

The rail stand bolts are similar where they thread into the intake. I believe where i tried to clean the rust off of these and had them soaking in vinegar too long, they lost a decent amount of metal that cause loose thread engagement. They just jiggle around in the intake, whereas a new M8x1.25 bolt sits firm in the threads.

Just gonna hop over to a junk yard with some basic hand tools and yank a set. Looked online for replacements, im not paying 25-30 dollars for 2 bolts.... 5 bucks in gas, 3 to get in the scrap yard, and an empty pocket will get me taken care of :)

its all good my guy. and lulz at the seat jokes. microfiber boxer briefs are an amazing invention. they don't ride up like cotton and keep things cozy.

They are fine until they arent, it largely depends on car setup. The harder it corners the more likely you are to suck air, decent suspension and race compound tires will get you to that point. morroso used to make a 5qt d series pan with rear kickout and better baffling that used a modified k20 pickup, but I havent been able to find one in 6-8 years, though honestly haven't looked recently.

I always wear a pair of BDU pants to the yard and can stuff quite a bit in the leg pockets. If you let the cashier see everything you pulled they will charge the piss out of you for little brackets and harnesses and stuff. I see it as like a $2 car buffet

Had 2 boxes waiting for me when i got home, the skirts and crank!

Slo, these are for you. Looks like the only real differences between these skirts are length, the way the tops are notched to hug the body, and mounting hardware.

Length difference, the EKs are 4-5" longer (EG still in box, EK on top):

EGs out of box:

Mounting bracket differences, EK on left, EG on right:

The cool little flare at the end of the skirts, and the logo at the front:

Put up against the car as best i could with one hand holding the phone:

@Oldcivicjoe i see what you are saying about how it does still hold a key:

20210519_185624.jpg

Going to take it to one of the best crank builders in my area (about an hour drive) to see if he wants to attempt the snout fix.

If not, i think i have a way to fix it without welding.

If i use a dremel or a mill bit to cut the ramp down flat, and rebuild a wall with good crank metal, square it with a file, i bet i can cold shape a piece of larger keyway metal to fit in the spot, push up against the keyway and the new squared steel wall. Then once i have something that fits tight and flat, ill shape it to the overall curve of the snout, so the balancer makes good contact and keeps that chunk of steel pressed down in place.

The biggest thing is just making sure the full keyway can transfer force into the crank steel and not wobble around. If it wobbles, it could snap the keyway. Shoving something in there to maintain constant pressure against the keyway and crank steel should be a good bandaid. The crank snout forge should also stay maintained without welding, so it will stay strong.

What size skirts did you get? I’ve been eyeing a pair but don’t know what size to get. I’m pretty sure the 5 inch will be too much for my taste and the 3 inch will look too much like OEM so I’m leaning towards the 4 inch.

I went with 5", biggest they had. When i measured my other nascar plastic skirts, those things were almost 6"! So 5 it was.

I agree, without something like a splitter, 5 would probably be just a bit too much hang down, it would look awkward with the height of the front bumper sides from the ground. 4 would be probably be pretty good.

Heres the 5.5-6" nascars for comparison, these PCI will be almost an inch shorter:
