Hey guys!! just signed up to the forums. I have been using the site for a while for knowledge here n there but, I'm looking to start on my own DIY project here soon in the up coming spring. I have d16y8 it is stock auto an have been waiting for the tranny to drop but, it seems as if it has plans to stay around. Well as you seen I wana do a tranny swap an quite frankly I don't know where to start I have my ideal tranny in mind just don't know what nic nac parts an such that are a must have doing this swap. I looking to do the swap quite fast (weekend project) as I will need my car for work. Any advise an input will be greatly appreciated thanks everyone!

A DIY would mean you "did it yourself" and are ready to show us how so we can feel empowered.

You are looking for help, that is in the transmission alley section.

But since this is a new thing, I mean making an auto into a manual, I am intrigued. This is fairy magic you speak of, no one has made this function properly, few even had the where with all to try it IIRC.

I mean there was this one guy, he had a hankering for the blackest of magic. He attempted this but as he made the first gear change at speed the time continuum opened and he was swallowed into the time between times. I swear he was in Free Birds.

It is not that we don't think you can, it is just so taboo and unheard of. This might set the internet on fire.

Oh wait here is one:

Deary me it looks as though you and I have been sitting in the opposite caves not researching things as we go. We have a lot to learn, and a bunch of reading to do..

Always new, OEM if you can afford it, OEM from the JY if you can find it, aftermarket if you want it to fail, you have no other choice, or your going where no engineer made it to go in the first place.

Exedy clutch kit, oem replacement is a good place to start. Most other stuff like gears and shift forks will need to be checked before you know what has to be done. This is where the rabbit hole can open up, so one step at a time.

Check that link it has all the pieces you will need to look into. Your response tells me you have a brain, or at least can type like you do so I am in.

Now go read and start collecting, you will have questions when the rubber meets the road, for now the link should get you started.

The mods can move this if they see fit. Just know we watch and protect this place from trolls and bums, if you are neither, there is info here you didnt even know you needed.

Also, yes I have a brain jus might not function at its full potential all the time lol. I was a deisel tech for a little under a year but thanks much appriated man!
