My 96 Civic HX slung a rod through the crankcase yesterday. I can't find a replacement engine locally, so I bought a D16Y7 engine, instead of the Y5. I want to know if I can put my Y5 head on the Y7 engine, so I can keep VTEC.

My second part of the question is: The Y7 block I got from the junk yard has 155,000 miles on it. Would my recently rebuilt Y5 head cause the rings to blow on the Y7 block?

i would do a rebuild on the y7 block though...might as well if you have the money and time so you don't have to do it later

did you just ask if the Y5 head will cause the Y7 rings to blow?

forgive me, but HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

sorry

no it wont blow the rings if everything is in good shape. the only way the Y5 head will cause the "rings" to blow is if the ehad allows coolant/water to enter the combustion chamber, even then the rods will go first
