Got this little beast from my wifes parents. They've had it as the daily beater for years. Sad part of it all is they run a goat farm and this little car saw at least 30 miles of dirt and gravel roads a day.....every day....for close to 12 years. Im bringing it back to its cleaner, asphault loving, auto-crossable glory piece by piece!

The day I drove it 567 miles home from their house.

Clean clean clean!

Left side has been wiped down, right side untouched.

Tail lights were filled with mud/dirt on the inside and hazed over on the outside. Hit em wityh the waterhose inside and headlight restore kit on the outside......

New Rear Trailing Arm Bushings, Coilovers, and brakes on all 4 corners.

And finally after owning the car for a mere 16 days......

Next up are all the front end bushings and new shocks all the way around.

Thanks all. I have more pictures of the cleanup on my phone. Once I get them uploaded to photobucket I'll show them as well. The engine was the worst part honestly. A power washer helped that but when I do any kind of work on it requiring me to get down deep in the engine bay Ill have my cleaning tools ready as well.
Thanks! Its easy to work on when it Stays on jackstands alot of the time. The brake and light inspector for Cali said that all the rear bushnins will need to be replaced before he would pass it. Still having to Daily Drive the old yoter for now...

I must say this....buying a ball joint press to press the old bushings out was most definitely one of the best $60 Ive ever spent at Harbor Freight!!!

The size of the threaded part and the hex head make all the difference. You can apply so much torque to it!!
I did it by hand with a 21mm wrench first until it brok eloose and moved about 2mm...then gave it hell with the impact for speeds sake. I couldnt be happier with how smoothe it all worked!
Weeeellllllll.....the D15b that was in the car gave out. It was the old school carb'd non vtec shortblock, with all the manifolds and such from the stock a6 that came with the car. Ill be picking up the ZC i ordered tomorrow as soon as it shows up at the shop from LA. I cant wait! Heres the engine troubles, thread.....

http://www.d-series.org/forums/gene...en-try-accelerate-sputters-coughs-stalls.html

Ill be documenting the rest of the car's build here since I have the troubled engine removed. From here its back to continuing the build thread starting with the ZC install! Project 335,000 mile+ auto-x continues!!!!
Thanks all. I cant promise rapid progression as Im not rich, HOWEVER, I can promise Im dedicated to building the dog nuts out of this car! I MISS AUTO-X!
Picked up the ZC today! Pics soon.

8 cylinder 4Runner!

Not alot of close ups at all, but the only thing worth documenting on the motor itself was the degreasing, toothbrushing, and powerwashing all of the components. The grime and grossness coming off the old stuff was rediculous!!!

Thanks!! Today after work I'm reinstalling the axles, and plugging everythig up. New fluids in engine and tranny, then off we go for a test drive. Should only be an hour or so of work. Hoping to drive it to work tomorrow.
Shit. Anyone have a hookup on where to get an engine harness? These wires are all so brittle and old. Im being carefull but still the wires are breaking all over.

Thanks guys!!!

Really need a wiring harness now. Wires on this one are old and breaking.
I was looking at your thread too Snail. Good stuff!
like it!

so what wheels and tires are you considering?
Thanks man! As for wheels and tires, I have no idea. For money's sake, I might just paint the spokes on these gunmetal and rock them for a while. I hate em, but they are functional and in really good shape....really light weight too.

Water based paint pen from Michaels craft store.....best idea ever for remembering the "to do" list for big projects.
