Wow I've really neglected these threads. And have been doing work.
So on the way home from CHD in October, I lost boost. But nothing else seemed to be an issue, no losses in oil pressure or coolant temp issues, so I drove on home. Albeit slow and steady. Check out things and find that the internal gate on the disco potato was binding again, so I decide to order a new housing. I mean since I'm a dealer/sales rep for RAC Turbo, I might as well enjoy some of those "perks". Exhaust housing at cost lol. What a perk lol. JK, it really was.
So I talk to my guy and get a new one coming, only one problem...........
I had always been under the impression that my Potato was a stocker and had the .64 AR exhaust housing on it, until I pulled it off and saw this under some gunk:
Yes, that says .86. Unbeknownst to me, I've been running a .86 big boy housing on the GT2860RS this whole time. And if I did somehow know that, I completely forgot about it. The size difference is notable when the two exhaust housings are placed side by side:
So now that its all back together the thing is a complete and totally different animal. And when I say animal, I mean she's an animal. She is now spooling at 2k rpms (2600-2800 before), I have 5 psi at 2300 rpms, and full boost (18psi) by 2700-2800 rpms or wherever it is that it blows the tires off and I start hanging on for dear life. That used to be about 3200-3500 rpms. 2nd gear is completely useless now, and if I'm being honest so are most other gears under full throttle. But when it does grip, it will hit 100 mph about as quick as you'd ever want a street Civic to do it. I mean stupidly quick.
Here it is with the new exhaust housing installed:
I think the plan now will be to pull boost down to about 10-12 lbs to see if we can lower cylinder pressure a tad, and also so 2nd gear is usable again lol. Its crazy what "little" changes like this can do. And if you're wondering if all Disco Potatoes do that, they get close, but with the Xona mod already in the turbo, this thing is insane, and the efficiency improvement is still extremely high. Reasons it fully spools so quickly and then still makes about 30% more power than it originally did. I'll update as I lower boost and re-tune it.
