It's been a while since I have been active on DSO, mainly because I moved to Hawaii as the worship pastor of a church. However that doesn't mean that I have given up on the world of Honda's, building heads, etc. I mean, I built a 91 wagon and shipped it to O'ahu so that I could enjoy my ride on island. Sad that I had to leave her there when we moved back, so I decided to build another wagon.
WARNING: many pics to come.
So I got an 89 wagovan that was an auto, fwd, 1.5 car. No title, but clean exterior and no rust. I set it back, knowing that I would need the parts for a later build. Here's the parts car:
no title, somewhat sucky interior, bad motor, good parts car.
Then I found a rusty, running car, that had a clear title. Guy was asking $1200 for it, until I found all of the rust in the rocker panels. It ran well, didn't smoke, still had the Wagovan trans (4.05 final drive), and a bone stock d15b2. I offered substantially less than that for the car and he sold it. Trailered it home and began taking it apart for resto.
As for the recirc pcv system I have to run them on nearly every boosted car I build, its actually only a maintenance thing, just needs an intake system cleaner run through it every 30k miles or so to keep the compressor and heat exchanger from building up deposits. However, the catch can needs to drain, and there needs to be a check valve in line with the pcv valve and draft tube. getting the right size, angle, and position of the draft tube into the air intake will actually reduce crankcase pressures better than a vented setup.
I'm not certain if the ca18de and sr20det that got fitted with these wheels benefitted more from the new wheels or from the ported compressor housings, either way the upgrade was huge for both cars. They completely out ran their suspensions once off the dyno and came to me for upgrades in that department, and what was already on them was not junk, just wasn't quite up to 30ftlbs more torque coming in 600 rpms sooner.
Thanks Soul, more nissan work in a few weeks/months after that guy watched this, can no one ever leave well enough alone? You said "newest" and I guess he's jelous. 😒
He was drunker than I was when he called me last night, hopefully he forgot, lol. He does have someone that is in development testing somewhere, which is how he scored the last wheels for free. Not even sure what turbos he is running, though I know that they are different on both cars. I was busy getting whacked in the face with my prybar and dropping my impact gun on my foot to pay much attention to the shiny stuff under the hood.
