Hello,

I have a really pain of a question. I have friend with a 01 civic ex with d17a2 and 193,xxx miles. She has been having a misfire on cylinder 4 for about 2 months. She cam to me because others said she needed a new timing belt. So changed the belt simple. She comes pick up the car and takes off and returns. at 2100 and 2700 rpms you can hear the engine burrr burrr. Not under acceleration just steady pedal. Well I downloaded the service manual and went thru the steps. Since it was still doing it I printed off the service steps from bosses Mitchell on Demand. Everything test the way its suppose too. I work at a small mechanic shop/ salvage rebuilder sales lot. Im the body man. Well last night I test the crankshaft sensor, It tested good, then it wouldnt start and the crankshaft sensor popped up. So we changed it and I just test drove it . Now heres the kicker last week while retesting everything for misfire I swapped injectors 2 to4, 4 to2, 3to 1 and 1 to 3. Swapped Coil packs 3 to4, 4 to1, 1 to 2 and 2 to 3, spark plugs are new ngk plat's. But every time P0304 comes up misfire on 4. Then I did a fuel pressure test 42 psi book calls for 41-47 psi. So I did compression test Cylinder 1 182 psi, Cylinder 2 180, cylinder 3 180 psi and cylinder 4 175 psi. Can some please direct me in the correct direction. My mechanics at work think its crankshaft sensor. nopers

Ok I adjusted the valves some were way out of spec. Here's the kicker the other day it ran great under 160 degrees on my scanner and the idiot gauge low. But it it was above that misfire. Now it's 180 and the gauge and my scanner will jump from 190 to below 150's. Yet the fans will not come on unless the a/c is on. It don't miss a kick at idle but you can hear it running defferently.

Command the fan on.

Check the gap on the plugs and upload pics of each one.

Check coolant for oil and oil for coolant.

When was the last timing belt and water pump done?

I'll post pics tomorrow. I changed the belt and water pump and tensioner 3 weeks ago. The plugs are 2 weeks old. I changed vtec module because it had p1259 code and tested bad plus leaked oil on the oil pressure sensor side.

Ok I checked spark plug gap all are are 1 mm. And look normal on Clinton and Haynes manuals. I replaced the ect. Temp is constant now, fan won't engage unless I jump it. So it needs a new fan sensor. But still sounds like a damn 2 stroke while maintaining speed. I cleaned G 101 so giggles nothing. I did a compression let down test and it was good at 10 percent loss. So mechanically this thing is sound. Or am I missing something somewhere. If my 94 ever acts like this car I'm burning it.
