Okay so I’m not sure if anybody is still on here. But I a recently got a 95 Honda delsol s and had a y7 with p06 ecu, my guess obd1 harness? But it took a turd and I am currently about to do a d16y8 swap to it. I have y8 from a automatic, grabbed the ecu and engine harness for Vtec. I am running into an issue for the engine harness. When I go to get the old harness out, it seems like the harness from the inside splits off to the dash. I want to get this swap done but I also want to have the dash fully working and engine management fully working to the ecu with running engine. Any ideas or anybody have done this swap and know the way around this?

why not drop the engine in, and use a p28 ecu? or get an obd2 to obd1 ecu conversion harness? why make it harder than it needs to be?

So if I did either of those options, I would still have to wire in the Vtec. One way or another. I was expecting to swap the harness like any other swap but I guess delsols aren’t like that. I don’t have long to make the swap complete so I need the resolution. If I went to jumper harness, how would I go about wiring in Vtec?

Buy a vtec conversion harness online. It will come with the 2 plugs, wiring, and the pins necessary to add to the ecu/engine harness.

You will want to either reuse your current intake manifold (assuming it is the d15b7 intake), or you will want to source a MANUAL d16y8 intake manifold.

Best case intake manifold is to source a d16z6.

These all have the 2 wire IACV idle motor mounted on the rear. The d16y8 manifold will liekly have a small vacuum port on the backside of runner #1 that I beleive was used for cruise control. Plug it if necessary.

You can also opt to lock the vtec valvetrain, and treat it as a large displacement d15b7, or pretty much like a d16y7. You can buy lockout pins online, or junkyard hunt for some valvetrain pins. H/F series valvetrain parts can work as well.

The ECU problem. Your Y8 harness and ecu are for an automatic. Not the end of the world, but far from as simple as picking up an ecu from a 92-95 civic SI/EX or Del Sol Si 93-95 (Del Sol VTEC is the B16)

I personally would check out the d16y7 head from the hurt motor, and as long as the issue was not oil starvation, the head is possibly good. Then you can simply grab a headgasket and head bolts, and put the Y7 head onto the Y8 block. The Y8 pistons will cause a slight drop in compression with the Y7 head, I beleive. Check the Zeal's link in my signature for more information.

All in all that was some pretty good information. Right now it has a d16y7 swapped in there. I have a complete y8 to put back together. Initially the car started smoking like crazy and larg puddle of oil sitting in the top of that head, oil also dripping from exhaust while smoking. There was also zero overheating. I left work today with the only thing to do is drop the engine so as long as it doesn’t rain, I will tear it apart and inspect the head. I really wanted the Vtec but to have it driving and y7 check out I’ll toss it on. I just was not prepared for delsol harness to all be connected with the dash harness all in 1. I’ll take any information I can get, but I will let you know what end up happening!

The del sol should have two chassis harness plugs. One near the ecu that is grey or green, and the other is the square-ish one near the brake booster. (not the fuel injector bridge plug. Check this one anyways, they like to corroded and make the engine run funky)

Find a wiring diagram and sort it out.

I do not think the del sol is a big integrated harness. It should be very similar, if not identical to the civics, just with sometimes different wiring colors. 93-95 for similar to 92-95 civics

keep the stock harness that came with the car originally. Drop in Y8 and keep the Y7 dizzy that likely has been modded to fit current harness or they reused the D15B7 unit. Wiring in VTEC only take the pins for the ECU and 3-4 feet of 18 gauge speaker wire, PLug in Chipped P06 ECU or a stock P28, it is that easy.
