  3. D16Z6 N/A Build Opinions

    Engine Building
I wouldn't personally waste forged pistons, on a n/a engine. I'd go with some oem cast ones that give more like 11.5-12:1 IM is ok, but I'd go 60 or 62mm on the TB, as you may loose more than gain, with the 66mm. Plus low rpm (dd rpms) throttle repsonse will be too sensitive, just enough to make...
  4. D14 rods power limit

    Engine Building
Thanks for the pointer. Looks like the R/S ratio of the d14 is 1.75 - I am very surprised. It is even better than the r/s of the b16. That probably explains why Sebastix's d14 itb turbo, got away with more than 200hp. I guess I will be sending it then.
  5. D14 rods power limit

    Engine Building
Just recently bought a cheap EJ9, d14a4, to use as a quiet dd, but this thing is ridiculously slow(ok currently with a 30-35mm restriction on the TB, being the carb style lpg, but that is to go away). I have a bunch of parts collecting dust in my basement, such as JRSC, z6 & y8 heads, colt cam...
  6. d15z8 pistons HELP!

    Engine Building
Compression height for the P2J piston is 27.75
  7. Rear calipers, bearing removal

    General Tech
So I bought a rod - aluminium-magnesium alloy and did a bolt, while waiting for the calipers to be sand blasted. I wasn't very happy with the result, so decided to send them for zink plating. It was about $12-13, together with the postage, so why not. I am happy with the result, I believe it...
  8. Rear calipers, bearing removal

    General Tech
That's what I thought, but they both refuse to move at all. I am certain, that just a little bit of extra force, on top of what I am using, will damage them. They are needle bearings, in case it's not visible from the picture. Slo, I don't have such a small bearing puller.
  9. Rear calipers, bearing removal

    General Tech
Evening gents. I am rebuilding a set of Lucas rear calipers (same as Nissin, but made in the Uk), for my eg. I'd like to remove this bearing, but it seems to be stuck in there. Tried to to torch the calipers a bit, didn't help at all. I am afraid to put more pressure on them, as I don't want to...
  10. roller rockers

    Engine Building
Race cam, for the vtec-e rocker arm assy. could make more power than z6/y8 ONLY after 5-6-7krpm, depending on how crazy the lobe is. Under 5k, it will be a complete dog. And it's really not that hard to do vtec-e rocker arm assy/cam, on a z6/y8 head casting. Just swap it, there is no need to...
  11. roller rockers

    Engine Building
IIRC vtec-e in. lift is 0.1mm less, than the low z6/y8 lobe, less duration, too. So until 3k, only one intake valve is open (to create swirl and increase air velocity) and it is using a cam lobe with less lift/duration. After 3k, it just hooks up the second set of valves, while with z6/y8, both...
  12. roller rockers

    Engine Building
You can use z6/y8 head casting with vtec-e roller rockers/cam - it will work. It just won't make as much power, as z6/y8.
  13. How to get turbo bolts to hold

    Engine Building
Palnuts are working great for me, they clip on top of the main nut and keep it snug. They are supposed to be reusable, but if used on the exhaust, they are not.

  15. Wideband Sensor Fail.

    General Tech
^This. If your controller is powered up upon contact, the porcelane plate inside the o2 sensor heats up to 800-ish oC. Once the engine is started, the condensation droplets are are hitting the hot porcelane and are destroying it. Consider using 30-60 sec time relay and/or rewelding the bung...
  16. Traction Bars- Full Race

    Suspension Corner
Just saw this thread. Since you bought it, could you please check upon the install, if it binds? Move the lca up and down, with the traction bar attached and shock/spring disattached. Hard race did not respond to my email, hope we get a definitive answer with your help. This is why I am concerned.
  17. What camber and toe have you set? Road racing/circuit

    Suspension Corner
Camber - negative 2.5-3* fr, -2-2.5*rr is a good place to be, depending on rim/tyre size. Mine is about -3fr, -2.5rr Toe front - if you want the front to be more responsive - add toe out, within the factory limit. Expect some uneven wear, rotating the tyres often is very good idea. For a...
  18. Oil/water temps too high. How big of oil rad is too big?

    Engine Building
The whole idea for the thick rad, came when I was looking at the sheepy and spal(or fal?) rads, that look like 100mm thick. I agree, that the thicker, the less effective, but if the top shelf companies are making them, there must be some measurable difference. I wish I could go wider, but my...
