Default Snap ring bitch

96 DX trans.

Took trans apart to pull axle out of diff (broke).

Put trans together, can't get ring to snap. Replaced with new snap ring. Still won't do it. No burrs in case. Ring is spread out.

Dropped case repeatedly and it won't snap.

Can't pry it with screwdriver (bearing that is).

It's pissing me the hell off.

I must have been lucky to have mine snap right in just by tipping the case to the side.

I had a heck of a time the first time I did it tho. Turns out the bearing wasn't passing through the snap ring all the way around. I couldn't keep the snap ring apart and lower the case onto it at the same time. My little trick was a large pair of needle nose pliers to spread the ring apart-- use the outside surfaces of the pliers' nose to spread the ring apart and have the bearing go all the way in.

Cussing and shaking the case while pushing down and having a friend hold the snap ring open seemed to help my last one. Watch to make sure you aren't held up on a dowel pin too.

Figured out my problem....

When I installed the FD I put 5th gear on upside down pushing the bearing up. Don't know how I got it to snap the first time.

Took counter apart and turned 5th over. Snapped like cake.

No EX 2nd though. The teeth (snychro part) on the countershaft 2nd were worn pretty bad, my guess on why it wouldn't go into gear. Threw the stock Y7 2nd back in. This is all I'll be doing for now (minus sending 4th to bone to get ground, then installing it), as I will be acquiring a caR in a couple of months with a B series. I'm keeping this as my daily driver though so I'll keep adding on to it.

I usually remove the whole gear set on the shafts with shifting forks leaving everything together to prevent mistakes like that, it requires someone to help but it's alot easier than figuring out how everything goes back on each shaft.

Not hard to figure out. Just keep gears in order or count teeth and label them. Look at Helms for order and the small things. I just flipped 5th on accident.
