1.565/1.00 Backlash Issue Solved
A few years back I built a CR gear box and drove it around for a while behind a turbo.
I had some issues with the backlash, specifically noticeable in the gear 3 and 5. It was quite audible and I wasnt sure what was causing the issue.
Well, I finally had the opportunity to take it apart and check it out.
It turns out the end mainshaft bearing had large amounts of play in the outer race, and the CS bearing with the snap ring had experienced some wear, allowing the shafts the wobble at the ends. I plan on replacing at least those 2 and expect quiet operation from here on out.

Heard a loud buzzing and a vibration when engine braking?
On the earlier AP1 S2000s, there was an excessive backlash that exhibited the above symptoms and was "fixed" by Honda by installing a new clutch disc with more dampening.
Anyway, obviously your fix is the right way to solve it. Wonder what the real issue was on the S2000s though
