Default Gear positions...

Hi guys, I'm currently swapping a JDM d15b vtec into my first gen civic. Everything is in and I'm about to tackle the shift linkage.

My issue is that I cannot figure out what position on the trans is 1st gear. I can pull the fork out and push it in but still have no idea what gears I'm in. Need to figure that out before I can build the linkage up. Its an 89 L3 trans.

Hopefully someone can help

Thanks in advance

Get the fork to neutral first. Then twist the shaft counterclockwise and pull it outwards. Try to visualize how the linkages move when you work the gear lever.

Any tips on finding neutral? I don't have drive shafts in yet so maybe once I get them in I'll be able to feel if its in gear or not. Thanks for the help

You should be able to feel if it's in gear or not by moving the input shaft some.

Put in a short screwdriver into the linkage hole on the trans and find neutral. You'll know when in N when you can move the driver left to right instead of in and out.
