Default Road racing and the cable SI trans....

I am in the process of building an "unlimited" class time attack CRX.... I have a proven turbo powerplant making ~300whp worth of power, and can should be able to get around the track without much drama. I will be running this at a few local and national tracks (road atlanta, mid ohio), and i plan to do so on a cable trans...

Is this a unobtainable dream? Should I do a D2B swap now and save myself pain and suffering? Is the Mfactory clutch diff and tight rebuild enough to keep this trans happy rev match downshifting and hammering out of corners at 90mph, with 275 slicks in the front?

Talk to aquafina, I am sure a D series trans can be made to work.

Although if you are basically at a starting point of zero without any money invested into D series trans parts and you plan to use this as a long term build, I would seriously consider just going D2B now. There is a DIY D2B thread here, and while a B trans costs more to build than a D trans, it isnt that much more. I know I would be kicking myself if I dumped money into a built D series trans instead of going D2B, then blew my D trans 6 months down the road.

4.9 FD, Mfactory LSD...although with your power level a 4.25 (stock) or 4.5 FD might work, depending on tire size.

transex, weve spoken, you recommended a longer first gear, do you also carry longer seconds ?

does a longer first and second work with the oem 3rd and the 4.9 final ? good combo ?

Absolutely no reason to go with a B trans. PM me with your setup details such as rev limit, tire size, etc. and I'll give you your options.

Longer first is useless for road racing. The only options for 2nd are OEM.

Yeah, a nightmare situation in my mind.... Only grace is the fact that the transmissions are $120, and I already have a few piles of parts.

Gearing is fine for me. I race a S2000 now, so im used to bad gearing as it is, but I would like to go 125-130mph in 4th gear on a 23 inch tire, but i doubt that is possible on a 7500rpm vitara D motor, i can find 5th gear if I have to, or just coast in 4th at speed depending.

The clutch type M factory diff is most likely the one I want to run. End goal is to have 275/35/15s on the front of this thing in 2017.

My torque band is going to be incredible on paper, so anything from 3500 to 7500 rpm will be making enough power for me to be happy.

Stock CRX Si trans. will do 129-130 @ 7500 rpm in 4th gear with 23.07" tire....

ZC 3-4-5 would also be fun!

What MPH bump would a ZC gearset give me? I am digging that 130mph limit in 4th right now, as I could push to 7800rpms for all the speed i'd want on most tracks.

A little weak on the EF SI trans, but I think the EG SI trans is pretty close. I can put the ratios in a little later, but I have a good idea how it will work. I compared the stock SI trans against my S2000, and its almost the same in 3 and 4, which is a bad sign, but at least I know where I need to go.

Ive heard stories, but how bad would a few hits a day in 5th gear be at 130+?

The only weaker part of the cable tranny is the differential design. In OEM fasion the cable trans pins wear out and become very thin, and eventually they shear and spin out the pin from the diff, bad things happen.

You are taking care of that by replacing the diff with an mFactory. Well played good sir. Enjoy.

My "built" Si trans died this way about 2 years ago, now i have a DX trans in it, but a SI trans ready to be built.

Gearing is horrible. Don't limit yourself to 4th gear, this isn't drag racing. What top speed do you need on track?

top speed on track is 130. ill scramble the RPMs to get to 135 if I have a tailwind working with me.

I recommend the MFactory 3/5 close gear set with 3.888 FD. This is looking at your endgame of the 275/35/15's with the presumption you only want to build the trans once.

I am going well out of my way to have a tractor/rally style torque curve, so really its so I can save on my transmission costs.... unless we are looking at upgrading my strength significantly with an mfactory gearset?

Yaaah, I'm using the 3.7 FD now. Thought the 4.0 would be good but it was still too short
