Default Gearstick hitting metal in 1st and 2nd gear

Hi guys, just had my clutch replaced at a garage, but now in neutral the stick seems a few inches forward and if moving the gearstick left and right whilst in neutral there seems no 'cushion' when moving to the left when you would select 1st or 2nd gear. It drives ok but in 1st and 2nd gear you can feel the gearstick vibrating against something and it generally feels looser than britney spears' vagina the righthand side of the shift feels fine though, any ideas? thanks

Take the boot off and look at an exploded diagram of all the shifters components. take yours apart and see if your missing anything.

It acctually is, it's hard to do but it does sound like your linkage wasn't installed properly, if your under the car you should see two bars cross eachother about 6in. from your shift lever, this installed the right way doesn't look like it should go that way but it's the way it is. Can you get under your car and put up a pick of your linkage? Also, when you say garage, do you mean an actual garage or a shop,if a shop dont waste time take it back and hit them with a big WTF.Sheasekhatch

If they replaced your clutch, they had to take your shift linkages off one way or another. Wether they unbolted it from the exhaust tunnel, or from the tranny side, it has to come off to get the trans out of the way.
