Default Little play with ball joint in control arm

I installed new ball joints in the upper control arm and there is a slight amount of play to the ball joint it can move up and down in the control arm.

Do I need a new control arm?

If i am understanding you right. Your saying the ball joint is moving in the UCA hole for the ball joint?
If so did you install the snap ring?

Ya thats exactly whats happening. The only ring I put on was the one that goes over the boot that holds the boot in place. Where do I get a new snap ring?

EDIT: my new ball joint didnt come with any other rings wouldnt a new one come with a snap ring? Only had the two rings holding on the boot

There suppose to come with the replacement. Check the box or bag
But if not you might be able to match the ball joint to one at a parts store.

If I know the diameter of the ball joint can I just bring that in to the parts store thats pretty much all that matters right?
