Default Catalytic converters

Like my last thread, mine were tried on a '96 USDM EX VTEC sedan. This addresses catalytic converters and test pipes, so let's hear it!

OEM- good all-around unit. Flow is decent for stock engines. Very reliable, mine lasted nearly 9 years, and it wasn't even ready to go yet. Heat shields tend to fall off or rattle, unfortunately. Expensive. Expect $550 for the converter and $240 for the o2 sensor for '96-'98 models, and $1100+ for the converter and $220+ for the o2 sensor for '99-'00 models. If you don't care about LEV emissions (track only? for legal purposes), the '96-'98 *might* work on '99-'00. Check with a friend with one before spending big buxx, and be warned the '99-'00 computer is quick to give a check engine light when emissions are up.

Jackson Racing- got what I paid for. Flow is good, since its a high-flow unit. Stainless steel construction, but it was covered in rust after a month of use. Good for OBD1 emissions only, or so the box says. Sloppy welds, and one part on mine might be leaking thru too. My front flange is not straight. First buzzes from the honeycomb observed within 4 months of use. Hasn't tripped my OBD2 computer's emissions requirements yet, but I don't know if it can pass Cali emissions (I don't have testing in my state). I paid $90, as it was on clearance, but it's normally over $200.

My friends have been using catco cats for a while, they pass emissions all the time. Even in CA. Good quality pieces too.

im using an obx cat on my obd-0 (a6).. when i first put it on with the matching obx catback it threw a code but i reset the ecu and it has been fine since with no lights.. the cat is a straight through design and looks like not a whole lot more than a stainless straight through muffler when you look inside of it but i got it all insanely cheap so i cant complain.. only been on for a couple weeks though so idk about wear yet..

I also have an OBX resonated test pipe.
It's actually a very well made piece with nice welds.
It is a little on the heavy side though, but it has a ton of packing around it to suppress the sound.
Full stainless steel, and it has made it through a NY winter with no rust.
The fit was also very good.
2.5" inlet and outlet.
I would definitly recomend it over a regular test pipe if you are putting it on a daily driver like I did

I have a "custom" cat

pounded out all of the honeycomb stuff inside the stock cat to make it alllll straight, but its loud as hell, got a ticket b/c of it

so i am gonna change to the obx resonated test pipe, cause its cheap, and quiet
