Default Seafoam Report

Car; The Wife's 91 Accord EX Wagon
Mileage: 152,XXX
Condition: Rough idle and leaking oil from balance shaft seals

Repairs: New T-belt w-pump idlers and all of the front engine seals

I spent a good portion of this past weekend wrestling with the Accord getting it ready for a trip to FL for Turkey Day. 1st thing I did was drive the car to Advance (my friendly auto parts store) buy all of the parts as well as oil and filter for when it was all done. Also bought some Seafoam to try and solve some detonation and smoking on accel when cold.

Technique: I have used similar products before so a tried the same thing with the Seafoam. With the engine warm I disconnected a vacuum line from the T-body and slowly sucked in about 8oz. (1/2) of the Seafoam in, stalling the engine at the very end. I then removed the spark plugs in preparation to change the t-belt. I then poured 1/2 oz. into each cylinder directly through the spark plug holes to help remove any extra material possible. Change t-belt and allow Seafoam to soak into carbon. Poured the rest of the Seafoam into full fuel tank
Spun engine over several times prior to putting spark plugs back in to make sure too much fluid was not left in cylinders. Replaced spark plugs and fired that mother up.

Result: Smoke. Alot. I mean, you couldn't see the sun from anywhere in my driveway or my backyard or the street or my neighbors house and.....well you get the idea. 10mins later the smoke abated enough to risk a drive. Drove around for 15 mins until the smoking died down to an acceptable level. Changed oil and drove around some more, still smoking. Monday the wife drove to work, still smoking. So now it's Thursday and the car is no longer smoking at all, even when it used to smoke before.

So the stuff is well worth the $4.88 plus tax plus my time.

One other added bonus is the car does not detonate as much on acceleration as it used to. Less carbon in combustion chamber=lower compression=less detonation

we used it on my buddies toyota that he rolled into a canal. filled the motor with muddy water. we just drained the cylinders, changed the oil and filled the carb with seafoam. ran it until it burned it all up and the bitch ran like a champ. no power loss whatsoever. seafoam is a good product.

This stuff is great. Used it on my '87 teg and had no problems. On thing I would suggest is changine you spark plugs AFTER this process as they get realy gunked up. I learned this the hard way when I put brand new NGKs in before I ran the seafoam.

Update!

I have just driven 11 hours @ 80mph all the way to Sarasota from Oak Ridge, Tn and if my math is right the old wagon got just over 28 mpg!! Thats the best its done since we bought it 9 years ago with only 45k on the clock. Seafoam to the rescue!!!

Good deal with the MPG. I've probably gotta try that on a beater Contour we've got. Burns about 3 qts every 1k miles.

That is a long drive though(Sarasota to Knoxville), did it in the spring. Too many cops in GA though.

tried seafoam a couple of days ago (this is an OLD thread - but it was the one i found under "search") ... i don't know if i can say it did anything... it does idle a bit lower now - (i think i need to change/tinker with the FITV or the IACV)...but yeah...the smoking wasn't too much...it didn't last for more than a minute or two. guess my engine was still pretty clean! @130,000 miles...yey!

yup in older engines carbon is the only thing that is holding the rings togeter, sefoam cleans this off and it exposes some holes. this is why it says no over 125k on the back I belive.

I have used it and should again pretty soon I havent used it in lke 10k.
