Default D16y4 swap?

Hey guys, new to the forum. First off i should say that im not a honda guy so i dont know much about them, so bear with me. A friend of mine has a 2000 honda civic (d16y7) and it lost compression. So he bought a used engine (d16y4) from some shop before he flew overseas to work and i will be putting it in while he's away. Well niether one of us realized until i started swapping the intake, harness, and acc. over to the new engine that it doesnt have a crank sensor. So his harness and ecu won't work. Ive done some research and im not sure if its 100% correct but all i can find is that i need to use a obd1 harness, distributor, and ecu because they didnt use a crank sensor. If thats correct then will i even be able to make it work with the obd2 car? Or am i better off just having the original engine rebuilt and sell the engine he bought to make back some cash?
