Default Classic Mini

Hey Guys,
I’m thinking about a d16z6 build. Not in a Honda, but in my Mini. After some serious researches, I must admit there are only a few d16z6 builds. But I found two here in this forum. So I decided to sign in an hope for a few answers. Maybe the guys with an already swapped car will give some advices…

The plan is to weld my own frame and sleeve the driveshafts by my own. If possible, I would like to use the entire CRX loom instead of the Minis, as its a lot more reliable. Exhaust wise I want to use a 4-2-1 50mm Manifold, with a 2“ Exhaust system and weld in a 100/200cpi catalytic converter.

I have some general questions:
What thread has the clutch slave cylinder line?
Is a 200l/h 70psi fuel pump strong enough?
What diameter have the CRX EH6 driveshafts?

And some Mini specific questions:
Which radiator did you use? Mini? Honda? Or something complete different?
Will the std. inlet manifold fit, or do I have to cut an weld it? What was your way?
Will the std. exhaust manifold fit?
Can I just connect the Honda throttle cable to the Mini accelerator pedal?

It would nice to get an answer. Maybe with some pics and additional information?

Kind regards from Germany!

First off. Welcome to DSO!
I've always wanted to do a project like this. They do make conversion kits for this swap that make it super easy to drop in. A new cradle for the engine and trans, driveshafts and a new shift linkage. The z6 bone stock will add around 75hp at the crank to your Mini before engine mods. Sounds like you just want a simple setup without too much power. 125hp is going to be fun in that car.

Thank you!

I think you mean Mini-Tec? They may do great kits, but I want build my own frame, as it’s cheaper and more fun. I like the Mini suspension, even its not even close to a „perfect“ setup.
One of the main reasons for a d16z6 swap is the reliability. My Mini does around 90bhp at the moment. But it was damn expensive to get there. And now, after the Tuning, Im afraid of pushing the engine to the limits, because it was so expensive… Quite dumb, I know…
But yes, I want a „simple“ setup with a little power increase, but big reliability increase.

I would NOT use a CRX wire loom, the wiring is brittle. I would opt for 92-95 Z6 wiring, less issues.

Also you might want to look at changing the final drive in the Z6 trans with your smaller 20" tires. Stock Z6 ratio is 4.25, but a 3.72 or 3.25 will keep the rpm down depending on you travels.

Clutch slave fitting was same thread as rear drums IIRC, M8-1.25, but verify first.

Yes, I have ran 175/50/13's "Mini sized" tires on the street. Yokohama A-008 RSII

Thanks for your reply!
92-96 z6 loom is from what gar? I'm located in Europe, so I think the Hondas are different than in USA.

My Wheels would be 10". Were the 3.72/3.25 ratios std. in some cars, or do I have to buy aftermarket parts?

You see, I have a lot questions Honda wise...

Standard OEM ratios. I have sold a few 3.25 to Europe for the Mini swaps, but two in Germany were planning on the Autobahn, your speed may differ

OEM in what cars?
By the way: The Autobahn isn’t that cool in my opinion. I’m more a fan of twisty roads up the bavarian forest. So a short final drive could be ok, but 10“ wheels with 4,25 may cause a lot of wheelspin in first gear. With 3,72 I could hit 60mph in 2nd gear. I think this would increase 0-60mph more than a shorter final drive, am I right?

Does anyone have the driveshaft diameter?
