Default New guy 98 ex coupe owner

Hey guys, I seen this website mentioned in article from Super Street Magazine. I want to rebuild a D16y8 and possibly turbo it, but I'm a newbie and this would be my very first build, so I wanna make sure I do it right and not do it twice lol
so any help and suggestions is much appreciated.

My suggestion, since you are new to hondas, and appear to be new with mechanical work,is to go out and buy a beater so you have a set of wheels while the civic is in operation.


With all parts in hand and tools ready to be used, your car will easily be down a week or two, as you install and tune things.

Before turbo charging, get ALL your maintenance up to date. This includes all wear and tear sensors (O2, intake air temp sensor, fuel filter, all 4 coolant sensors, ignition stuff, etc...)

This will make a HUGE difference in final power, drivability, and reliability. Plus 99% of the maintenance will benefit the car both in stock form AND turbo form.

Any way guys whats a good way to start planing my build?? because I was thinking to work on suspension this summer and then start worrying about rebuilding the motor next summer? any tips?

Do chassis, suspension and brake mods or work with a focus around your future goals for the car.

If planning to add big power eventually, it would be the perfect time to start planning brake upgrades, poly bushings, stiffer suspension, chassis bracing, etc...


on honda-tech.com there is a HUGE brake upgrade thread that details all specific parts, and even gives you a chart so you can figure out which upgrades give you what.

Chassis wise, a traction bar up front, an H brace underneath (either stock integra, or ebay/megan), upper rear strut bar, front 3 point upper strut bar, etc..

suspension wise, I recommend full coilovers. nothing beats a high quality coilover kit. you can get tons of different spring rates for your needs. adjustable shocks means you can soften it up for cruising and stiffen it up on the track. Many come with new spring hats/mounts so its fresh and not relying on more money spent.




TONS and TONS of stuff man. Research is key!

Always start where the ground touches the car and up from there. If not upgrading, at least maintaining.

Tires
Brakes
Bushings/ball joints
Shocks and springs
etc...

This sums it up perfectly. People get so excited about making their car go faster they forget about supporting mods. Take your time, do more research than you ever thought possible, build a list of parts (Excel makes this much easier), and focus on the project as a whole instead of just throwing parts at your car.
