Hey guys, Im at a loss for how to get my rear quarter panels to look like oem arches, with the 3/4" arch line looking consistent and sharp over the rear wheel.
I have done my arches twice now, both times cutting out a little honda rust in the rear quarter, this time someone bumped me at work at the very top of the rear quarter, and I tried to build with filler and make it look oem but if you look from the side at an angle you can tell the arch isnt perfect.
I tried block sanding, and doing little guide coats to see where my lines were, and it still doesnt look close to perfect. Im not needing perfection, as Im giving the car a cheap paintjob in the garage, but id like it to be atleast not noticeable to that the panel was repaired.
***** DIY Sub Forum Rules ***** DIY forum is meant for people doing write-ups and such to give guidance.
• This is not the place for asking HOW to do it. That's what general tech and the other forums in that section are for.
• If you did an install on something, and want to put a write-up about it somewhere, put it here.
• If you have a link to another site with a DIY, do not post it.
If you're asking HOW to put an extra tach on your dash, this is not the place to ask. Rather, you should search in this forum for an existing post pertaining to your problem/project. If one is not found, go to the knowledge factory.
So you have a dent at the top of the arch and have popped it out or whatever? Get it to 1/8 or 1/16 or whatever of where you think it should be, making sure you don't distort or ripple any of the other metal around it. Assuming you have done this apply your filler blah blah. Don't even worry about the edge with the flat part yet, work it into the outside curves. I like to work from the outside in, so I start with the curved metal and work into the filled spot. Get all that shit squared away as best I can with filler. Then I cut the flat part until the width is slightly smaller than it should be and the filler is bowing out from the flat area. Hard to describe.. I don't cut it all the way yet. Now I evaluate.. do I need to cut the curve higher? lower? flatter? And just work it, a few thin layers of filler with some spot filler at the end (I use it mostly as a guide coat since it's red) and fill primer. I did this on my crx's driver side quarter about a year ago and it still looks perfect, no shrinkage so far.
I don't know what the "right" way is.. I do all my shit as a hobby. I know how to get a complex curve on thin ass crx sheet metal though, something the body guy I paid to do couldn't apparently. Hope I could help some. I am just describing how I would approach it.
Cliffs: pop out metal, fill with a thin layer, sand filler to metal but work metal to filler if that makes any sense (don't focus on the dent or curve, focus on blending the edges), figure out where the line is and where it needs to be, cut it in.
Why is this dude still here if the general consensus is that he's a piece of shit? Ban his fucking ass and ban his ip or whatever. If he comes up with a new name, BOS. Fuck em
Kids? Granted yes im only 20, but some of the OG members here are some educated gentlemen of age. You're just a douche.
Nobody is making you stay here, you are unwanted, not needed, and quite frankly, you smell bad. There's the metaphorical digital door, walk through it and... (watch clip)
So if you couldn't give any fucks why do you stick around? You're not wanted here, nor are you liked, yet you come back for more. Poor kids yet you ask for knowledge. Gtfo and don't slam the door on your way out.
The guy trying to make fenders out of bondo wants to talk about "internet credit" lol. You're a hack, like has been said and made apparent by your rep, you are not wanted around here, go find an appropriate site, 4chan perhaps, to go troll. If you really want to be a part of the community, I suggest making a new profile, not being an ass, and NEVER under any circumstances EVER mention you are the member once known as vagitarian
I love you guys, have him iggy'd, he's my first. It hurt at first but all is well now.
