Default Lifting Engine Without Transmission Attached

Hey all, I'm trying to figure out what the best place is to lift just the engine from on a D-series engine. I've searched and read the Honda manual, and they all mention the bolt hole on the back-driver's side of the head and the bracket on the transmission.

Okay, but how do I get the engine onto an engine stand. At that point the engine will be held up by the transmission so that's obviously not going to work. I've seen a few people post saying they've lifted it using the distributor bolt hole (I assume they mean the lower one towards the front).

Can someone confirm this is safe to do, or lend me a suggestion if this doesn't work (or there's a better option). Thank you!

Also, I'm not asking how to pull it out of the car, I realize the factory method is going to be the best way (and the engine is sitting on the ground anyways).

Thanks for the response transzex. So I'd still have to muscle the transmission off on the floor or something with that approach (since the transmission has to be out to use them. Am I missing something?

The whole swap weight like 160lbs if we were talking 800lbs engines I could understand but come on I have pulled and replaced the entire swap by hand alone.
I have also done it with 2 others helping.

With all that said I always use the following when using a lift.
Bolt on the back of the head driver side rear (Firewall)
Bolt into the block from the transmission side front (Radiator)

I have removed the trans only but never just the engine.
I normally place the engine on a old tire then pick up by hand and put onto a stand.
Thats bolting it to the stand attachment on the ground and sliding the attachment with engine attached onto the stand.

You weren't planning on putting the engine AND tranmsission on the engine stand right?

Tranny has to come off at some time.

Okay, I think I have a plan now. Thanks for the responses. I think I'll lift the engine onto a crate so I can get the transmission off and then just use one of the transmission bolt holes to lift it onto the stand.

I was trying to think of a way to get the transmission off with the engine lifted in the air but it probably makes more sense to just remove it and then lift it up. Sorry if that doesn't make sense, I'm not very articulate today.

This is my first engine swap I've ever done, so lots of learning here.
