I have a 1996 EJ8, the people I bought it from put a D16Y7 in there and left the P2P-A31 ecu it boggs at 55k rpm..
I would like to know should I swap to a y8 head (car has all vtec plugs still) or change to a non vtec ecu...
I want to build it up maybe 175-200hp. What is my best option..

Well, you won't get any normal D series to rev past 55k rpm!

find a 96-98 d16y8 head and install it to solve all your problems, and gain a bit of compression while you are at it.

Knock sensor is related to 1999-2000 civic d16y8's

Id suggest training your google-fu, its awesome how much information is out there regarding honda's.

The shitty part, is that they are so cheap EVERYTHING from the most basic stuff to the most advanced stuff has a lot of conflicting information.


In other news, search for "d16y7 oil jet" as a push in the right direction regarding your head swap
