Default Smoke coming out of catch can

i have some smoke coming out of my oil catch can/ breather can, and the part that scares me is it smells like exhaust.... could it be that my turbo is blown? could exhaust be getting its way past the seals and into my crankcase? help me out here guys!

its nothing to do with ur turbo...its positive crankcase pressure from your block...i've seen this with my friends car when he had a catchcan...he got scared and just ditched the catchcan cause maybe it wasnt able to vent blowby that welll?? but his cars fine now...

Its possible your turbo could do that, but you would have a bunch of other problems then as well. I wouldnt worry about it, but id monitor the situation just to make sure it does not get worse.

I have seen some engines when u remove the oil cap there is oil vapour coming from the oil cap hole when the car has been driving for a long period of time. Its nothing to worry about unless the catch can is filling up with excess oil frequently... then u may have a serious problem.

so would you say it's normal, even if it starts happening like after 2 minutes of idling on fresh oil?

it's really funny you said this cause I had the exact same problem. I mistook oil coming out the black box/hose vented to ground for an oil leak at the oil pan gasket bolts.

if you have smoke coming from the catchcan & you have the catchcan coming from the crankcase/valve cover hole...
blue smoke?
maybe rings/valve seals?

even if you had the catchcan hooked up to the pre-intake...it still wouldn't smoke if it was the turbo.,.

I'm not gettin why everyone else would be saying its the turbo...
which seal end?

it looks exactly like exhaust smoke as if it was a cold morning... light gray buy not white... it also smells like exhaust. maybe if i got you guys some pics itd help?

also, one more thing, is this how a honda engine burns off excess oil when it is overfilled? i put like a 1/4 of a quart too much accidentally last oil change.. but like i said it looks like someone poured oil on the driver side of my engine bay.. but my oil level in the pan hasnt decreased at all...

maybe i should just rebuild the motor? the compression was 155 on all 4 cylinders.. and the head has about 110k on it..

I had this happen with my last motor. My catchcan was smoking worse than a 70 year old lady in a casino after getting her retirement check. Turns out my set up had bad ringlands. I am worried about this on my new motor as well for how I should set up my catch can set up.

yeah, this and air filter are the two most major concerns with a turbo kit. of course tuning to, but that's not that hard. are you trying to say that you had a problem with your ringlands as a result of the way you had your pcv setup?

I've started threads about my problems with my pcv setup, where I couldn't build more then 2 psi of boost?? then I vent the crank case to the ground and I can build boost. There's a couple factors, cause I had slightly more then normal blowby at idle (air blowing out the valve cover instead of sucking), plus I had way to much fuel being dumped in the motor which increases blowby or is blowby.

Cause I know people that didn't even fuck with there pcv and let it stock and it runs perfect. he just left the valve cover port open without a filter. which would be what a stock turbocharged car does and routes that line to the turbo. like it is stock on a honda but on the other side of the throttle plate. I figure if I rebuild my motor, which I'm doing, which will tighten up the ring seal I'm going to just run the pcv stock. with the valve cover port just open.

what we really need to do is get how a few turbo charged vechiles are running this system.

are you saying running rich at idle could cause blow by? because all of a sudden my idle is from 17ish:1 to 13-14:1..... without changes to the map... could this be a cause?

my motor didnt always do this, it started pretty much after i went boost. ive never had any issues building boost though.. and the valve cover nipple has always blown air out and not sucked air in, are you saying that is abnormal? i would assume it would have a minor vacuum if the stock PCV setup was still attatched.. should i possibly try that? re-installed the pcv valve?

well, what's blowby? burnt and unburnt fuel. so even if the rings and bores is perfect (rebuilt) more fuel has the potential for more blowby. weak rings/seal ( normal wear) increases the effect....
