Post D16Y1 Noob Question

Hello All,

I am new to the forum (and Hondas in general) but I have managed to aquire a cheap Civic EP2 from a friend of my Dad, who needed rid of it.

It is not a shining example and it is really slow. Perfect for learning to turbo thought I!

I am fairly down with the basics of the Turbo (the pipe work, intercoolers, dump pipes etc.), I am also sure of how to cool the turbo.

What I am not so sure about is as follows,

Oil- Is it necessary to tap a connection into the oil sump in order to fit a return line and is there anywhere to tap into to run an oil scavenger line into the turbo on a D series engine?

Boost- How can I ensure I am running a safe, non-engine killing, boost pressure

and finally, Fuel- Unfortunately, I am in no positon to take the car to a specialist in order to have an ECU setup, as there are literally none where I live (speciallists that is). I have taken this into account and am sure I can run the turbo on low boost and fit a chipped ECU, bigger injectors and an FMU in order to keep the fuel pressure up. Does anyone have a link to somebody fitting an FMU, as it is foreign knowledge to me.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to being a part of this forum.

Peace

oil is pumped from the pressure sender on a d series and just drained back into the pan

psi means nothing. the same pressure through a straw isn't the same pressure through a water hose.

its all in the tune. you might get lucky and not blow anything up, or you may grenade it within a few minutes....do a bunch of reading and learning and maybe you can be your own local tuner

I suggest viewing the turbo forum section. Lots of questions will get answered, lots of opinions on setups and parts, and lots of supporting information to get you started.

research and gaining knowledge is gonna be 80% of the battle for boost.

The more you know, the less money you will spend overall, and the better experience you will have.

Step 1) Fast, Cheap, Reliable - pick 2
Step 2) Pick a power goal
Step 3) Read ... a lot.
Step 4) See step 3.
Step 5) Plan
Step 6) Execute

Since it sounds like you will be doing most of the work yourself ... you have a long road ahead you.

Do you have any experience working on cars? Do you have a daily driver for while this is down for the installation?

Also reading is your friend. There are resources out there for learning to tune yourself, as well as free software and affordable hardware.

You will want to do a lot of research before diving in to make sure you aren't getting in over your head. Start with small projects to see if you want to tackle something as extensive as turboing your car.

Best of luck, welcome to the forum ... and as always ... pics or ban! :P

Thank you for all your replies. I have been struggling the last couple of days for a steady internet connection, so this is the first time I have managed to read these.

I will definitely check out the turbo section and read absoulutely everything! I am a competent home mechanic who works on my cars all the time, and finally, I do a daily driver (or 2) so the Honda is a chance for a major project.

Thanks again.
