Default Use of D15 rods and SRP Forged Pistons..?

Hey...

Can we use STOCK D15 Rods and SRP Forged Pistons...?

Anyone know if this is possible...will they fit?

(will be used on a lightly boosted engine.. just broke a ring-land
and dont wanna use stock pistons...)

You would have to have the small end re-bushed IIRC. But why on earth would you do that?

Hey...

Thanks for the reply..... !

Why.. hmm.. because i dont want to spend too much money on that engine..
And the Forged Rods for the D15 are expensive... ($750-800)
(anyone knows about some less expensive ones..?)

Plannin to get me an D16 / Vitara combo later this winter/next spring..

Not easy to spend so much money on this car when i also have a serious
project in the garage... that costs me almost every penny ive got... LOL

Yours

cant he just get a cheapo d15b crank in that and run d16 rods?$300 dunno much about them things, but swore i heard that...i would think putting a heavy forged piston on a stock rod would make it even weaker.

Yeah he could use the jdm d15b crank and run d16 rods.

I would just get some stock pistons dude. No use throwing forged pistons on stock rods especially if it just for a "little" boost. I mean even if you did what are you gaining? Not much at all.

yeah stock pistons with a reliable tune will last a long time. or just get a d15b crank and run h beams and forged pistons. forged on stock rod is just a WASSTTTE. and i bet the rod would not last long with that extra weight at high rmps.

Hey again..

Thanks for the replys guys...
I was not completely honest when i said "alittle" boost....
For the moment ,we`ve been runnin 22psi of boost on that stock
bottom sucker..
(Blew headgasket and some ringlands after a couple of days) LOL

You mentioned the weight would be an issue.... that is really
something ive not taken into consideration... Hmmm...
and youre probably right... that could affect the "balance" of the engine...!
Not reving so damn high.. but.. i guess 6500-6800 is enough if the
weight is increased on the pistons...!

The way i thought of using the Forged pistons were to
increase the ability to withstand cracking of the ringlands ,
wich happens so fast on those stock ones...!

And.. yeah.. will turn down the Boostcontroller a couple of notches...! LOL

what about the shorter deck of the d15?

what about the taller D15 piston? does SRP make D15 pistons? that would be sweet.

But then your rods will just be the weakest link. There's always the guy from Hungary on TD16 with the forged D15 rods. He wants $300 a set, but shipping is a little pricey I'm not sure if anyone in the states has tried them yet.

D series rods are the weak point. Pistons and sleeves come after.

This is about a d15z1, right (I figure you are the same guy I talked to at the local board, lol). If I remember correctly, that motor uses some bastard parts. d15 block and crank, but the rods are the same length as the d16 rods (and a bit beefier than the d15 ones), meaning the piston wrist pin sits higher than the other d15 pistons. The high position of the wrist pin is why vitara pistons get such low compression on stock length d16 rods also. I dont have the numbers available, but the d15z1 rods and virara pistons might actually be a great match You would have to machine the small-end on the rods so they can use the floating crosspin on a vitara piston, but thats not a big deal.

IDK, might be something worth looking at.

Edit:
Zeal says 9.88:1 comp ratio with stock z1 head, 8.27 with a z6 head Pistons will be sticking 0.022" out of the block, but with a z6 headgasket (0.037"), that should not be a problem (?)

Only for the jdm d15. It has the same size rod bearings as d16. USDM d15's have smaller rod bearings. Still waiting for the usdm d15 rods to be made
