Default Retard wants to advance...HELP

I'm looking for how many degrees I should advance. Just rented out an advance timing gun and I'm on the clock. check my garage for info.

I think the optimal place is going to vary depending on your compression (which will also vary from other peoples cars, due to carbon and ring and valve seat conditions). The type and condition of your spark plugs will also effect it.

I'd say put a tank of the octane you want to use from now on, then advance the timing till it clatters when you're running it under a load, then back it off till the clatter stops. You'll notice a punchy engine response.

Start with your car's baseline +2 degrees.

It isn't going to give you that much of an advantage. It mostly will just change your power curve points...

Ignition timing, correct? I did 2 degrees advance over stock(around 18 degrees at idle), it ran fine but I didn't really notice much power.

if you hearrattle/pinging, damage is already done.

VERY easy to break ringlands with too much timing under load.

Stock A6 with P29 ZC pistons will break the ringlands if your not careful.
