Default Tuning for 5th gear

I typically street tune using an entrance ramp onto the freeway that allows me to do a full 3rd gear pull. On the way to/from the ramp, I'm playing around a little on the highway and opening it up in 5th gear.

I notice detonation while in 5th in places that I've never heard before during my 3rd gear pulls. For example, I heard detonation between 3500-5000RPM in 5th but I've never heard it there during any of my 3rd gear pulls.

My ignition map is fairly conservative (I think) and I'm running between 19-22 degrees of timing in this range (3900-4500RPM @6-7PSI).

I have a dyno session set up two weeks from now and I'm wondering what the best course of action is. Since the dyno session will be in 3rd gear and I'll never be using 5th on an autox course, should I adjust the map for the detonation I'm hearing while in 5th or should I just go off of of the 3rd gear pulls?

As I'm writing this, it seems like a silly question to ask but I'd appreciate any input that you guys may have.

5th gear is high load. Good way to blow an engine, I've done it without a turbo.

Yeah and I've heard similar horror stories. So I guess the best bet is to tune for 3rd and avoid 5th gear pulls.

How many times will you hit 5th gear on a hard pull? I've done it ONCE!

Tune 4th gear....just in case you get into some highway action while in Mexico.

Never, really. Now that I've read and understand a little more about WHY it happens, it makes much more sense to just tune for 3rd since most of the autox courses won't ever require me to even get out of 2nd.

Lesson learned - don't do high load/low RPM pulls.

Do you have Ignition Compensation with each gear? Timing in 5th may not be the same as timing in 3rd.

I’m not doing anything based on gear calculation because of an issue with the way turboedit incorrectly calculates gears based on tire size in this version on NG63.

The other version where this might be fixed has an issue with it imposing a false rev limiter and randomly throws CEL codes even though they’re disabled.

But, shit, for free turboedit is fucking awesome and I can live without gear based anything.
