Default Ecu help

I've searched and searched but everywhere I see my question asked it's a really old thread that ended in an argument with no answers.

My car is a 98 civic with a d15b block and y8 head. It's currently using the p2p ecu, and while the car runs good it's pretty sluggish on the low end. (Worse than a 1.5 mitsubishi mirage I think lol.)

The swap is obd2a I'm wondering if I should be running a different ecu.

Being sluggish on the low end could be timing. Double check your timing both mechanical and distributor.

Timing on the belt is right I'm waiting on my timing light to show back I let someone borrow it. With this setup is there anything special I need to make a note of in regards to timing? I've read a few post where they all say it should line up but no one was sure about it.
