Default HP/mpg recovery

This is the first car I have ever done any mods too I have a short ram intake, headers, and an aftermarket converter on my 96 civic lx d16y7 after installation I had a decent HP gain and I was getting 42 mpg then after a short time the ecu recalibrated itself and I'm almost back to where I started so now what can I do to get it back. Reset the ecu to erase all the long term stored data, get a chip for the ecu, or get a power control module

Yes they do you are right, long term fuel trim, short term fuel trim, etc.

If you really want better mileage, you need to reduce weight or improve aerodynamics.

You could also convert to OBD1 and then have complete control over your fuel maps.
