Default Chipping a P05 ecu

hey guys had a couple questions about chipping a P05 ecu 1720 board, whats up with R52 there is a resistor there but if i look at a P28 board its not there , why is that , and also i usually put a jumper in J1 but there is also a resistor there. any light on this subject?

desolder the resister in j1, then put a jumper in there when you chip the ecu...
